Corn cobs smoke well with virginia and are fine pipes for the price.
I also suggest you keep smoking corn cobs and start to save money for a briar pipe, there are a lot of briars out there, new or estate, that you can buy at a reasonable price.
I purchuased an estate Parker pipe on ebay for less than 20 $ and it smokes like a dream.

You're welcome. I think it IS revealing, and important. The guys who use rosewood, cocobolo, blackwood, etc for pipes do so at their own, and in my opinion, at others' risk. They don't feel this way, and I've had some pretty ugly conversations with a couple pipe makers who think I'm full of shit. Really, all I can do is offer the information and leave others to make a judgment for themselves.

 
...though the mentioned questionable woods do make wonderful rings or accent pieces on the shanks of pipes... :sunny:
