Pray for Portland!

A lovely little snowfall in Portland. Our first in a few years. HUGE urban nightmare from just 2 - 3 inches. Cars off the road everywhere. Vehicles abandoned sitting in the middle of all the freeways. Gigantic Christmas and New Years bonus for local body shops. Few real injuries thank goodness.

Warlock Bob and I are Portland residents. Me and mine lucked out in many ways as family members all made it home safe last night. Haven't heard from Bobby yet.

Pray for us.

I've been talking to Blackhorse this morning; all is well in my neck of the woods! The fiance had the early shift at the Starbucks where she works yesterday, and I work from home; she was home by 11:30am and we had plenty of food and libations here. Car got parked in the garage, the fireplace got turned on, and I've only set foot outside long enough to check the mail. So far so good, but there's no telling what today may hold!

I have kids and grandkids out there, and I heard of 3-5 hours stuck on the freeways. When I lived there I steered clear of those, locked the hubs and took surface streets. Blackhorse, being near the TopOfTheHill, I'd probably stay home. WB, being in Beaverton seems safer, but the huge influx of SoCal drivers compounded with holiday 'cheer' may make your area more treacherous than it seems.!!

Wait a day or so, and get glass insurance for your rigs. They use gravel there....

I feel your pain Dave. I've been following this on the TV news and it doesn't look good despite the relatively few inches you've had. If drivers aren't prepared or experienced in driving in snow and slippery conditions, it's a recipe for disaster. Just got through one of those periods myself about a week ago.

Hope it clears up soon for you and your power stays on!

When I first moved to Arkansas, I remember a couple day warning by the meteorologists of the impending "snow storm". The night before it was to "bury us" I stopped at Walmart on the way home and you would think that the end of the world was imminent. Every shopping cart was filled with bread, eggs, and toilet paper. People who had never had an omelet in their lives were buying dozens of eggs? But the biggest confusion was the mega-economy crates of toilet paper. Does snow bring on mass diarrhea? Or I envisioned drivers carefully unrolling the TP under their drive wheels for traction.

In the end, we had about 1/2", and it shut down the State for a couple days. Being raised in the UP, (Ontonagon Michigan), it seemed humorous to me. However, I was well put in my place when we had an ice storm a couple years back. Not being able to get up the drive and no electricity for almost a week kind of wore thin.
