Yep yep, I get it .

And I am going to take all of you guys's advice , and try it for a while.

I just know that I really enjoy the flavors of boswell's Va slice in my little 317, and it just doesnt taste the same in my other pipes.
I was thinking , too big a bowl , too easy a draw, might be the reason.
But , like I said, I will give it a try , "seasoning" my bowls , and not overcleaning.
That was along the lines of what I was thinking about doing with the cobs anyhow, but then , the cob advice, on the primer ( unless I'm confused) said to keep em cleaner than a briar.

Something entered my mind , as I was typing this.
maybe this whole thing is about finding that perfect pipe/tobacco combination, that I've read about. Well, obviously it is.

Hmmm OK, let me throw this at ya,,,,lets say , you have your favorite tobacco in your favorite pipe, it all clicks , you just think it is the BEST .
but , you have to let that pipe rest,,, so , your smoking that same favorite tobacco, in a different pipe,,,,,Does it taste different to you ?

From my immediate perspective, that's a little simplistic a concept to directly answer. Taste and preference, even just by simple choice alone, seems to skew the notion you've brought up right there. There's been days I've fondly recalled a certain pipe, and a certain tobacco, and a week later, I've returned to the same time, place, pipe, tobacco and while it can be good, it just doesn't replay that "exact perfect moment."

I think overall, we do the best we can (provided it isn't pure chaos, which I've been known to perpetuate in spite of myself  ) and when we hit it, we should be just HUGELY thankful we found it, keep it in mind, and move on to the next scenario.

On the contrary, there's guys here that have only a few blends, a few pipes, and perhaps have nailed down their own specific formula or preference, and that's also a good thing.

From a relative newbie to a relative newbie, Dusty, the guys mentioned above that have "figured it out," have done so over a long time, dealing with differences in blends, changes in mixes, even pipe making itself. They've done a lot of personal research and gone down a path all their own, as we all do. It's not a "static" art, it seems, but a dynamic one, choice of tabak, pipe, time, from day to day or decade to decade.

I guess we all have our own set of expectations, goals and experience levels for a reason, but we can certainly all aim for that moment, when it's just you, the tobacco and the pipe. Even if it's just a quick moment, congratulations are in order. Hell, life is like that in general.

Just prattling on... "go with the flow." :D Sorry to get all philosophical and conceptual.
