I was on smokingpipes.com site and came acress some blends under the brand Brigham and they had one called Klondike Gold which is stated to be "....a golden, light and medium brown Virginia tobacco ..." and refers to the LEGEND series on the label. TR does not have any reviews of it, nor even mentions ANY of the blends under this brand name and sp says they are "new" blends. Was wondering if any of you folks have tried this one?

I just noticed this at Pipes and Cigars today for $9.00.  I wonder what company is producing it for them.

Well, I'm in for a tin of Maritime Morning; hopefully they will all get some reviews soon

Rock Maple?  Anybody know what those cost?  I am guessing they make the balsa one look cheap.  Why does a fresh hard wood become a preferred filter?  We start off with a fresh hardwood with a new pipe and can't break it in fast enough.  And these "filters" will be hard to impossible to eliminate from a pipe.   I pass!

I read the "review" and so much for the intellect of pipe smokers being superior.  One guy like the old-time labels as his reason to buy some.  Another guy likes the neat names.   Looks like the encounter group reasons work.  See ya all at Walmart or the Gap.

Monbla,
I see the new picture.  You seem to be the only one here getting younger.  :cyclops:

I think that calling the Rock Maple insert a 'filter' might be a misnomer. Also, comparing it to the balsa thing is also a miss. My understanding is that instead of absorbing dirty water and needing to be discarded much like a filter tube in a MM Cob...it is cleaned and re-used?

The following comment from a user supports that:

"About the filters, for those of you who have a prejudice against filter systems. The filters are not only not an obstruction to the air flow, and yes they will pass a pipe cleaner, but they are washable! Even reccomended to wash them by Brigham, and then re-use! I save them up and giove them a two step, a shaking in a small bottle with alcohol and short soak, then a rinse with water and air dry."

That, plus the fact that the insert makes for a smooth and uniform draft flow, would make this a plus for me.

Just so you know the rock maple "filters" are a hollow tube that fits into the stem of the pipe. They really don't filter anything, but are supposed to lengthen the exposure of the smoke to wood rather than vulcanite or acrylic. Whether that does anything or not, I cant tell. Where they do excel and add an advantage is they catch a good portion of the tar and tobacco juice. For someone that only has one or two pipes you can smoke, let cool, pull the filter, swab replace filter and go again without having to let the pipe dry. Pop the used filter in a glass of alcohol, rinse it off and let it dry. Upto 30 bowlsbon a filter so they are not expensive. Think of their function much like the peterson chamber, but removable and washable with less dry time. I have owned several of these and it works well.
