Hello BoB's,

Quick question for y'all:

I recently bought a few 8oz bags of Esoterica Dunbar and want to know about storage. Is it a better idea to remove these from the bags and jar them for long-term storage? Or will they preserve better if left in the original bag?

Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated.

Thanks

Any tobacco that you plan on cellaring long term should be jarred. Just in case of any small holes in those bags. Just my personal preference and my years of experience. Some I know will store long term in two zip-loc bags, not me because of something called off gassing. You can pick up 12 Mason jars, 8oz size at Walmart for about $9.00, can't beat that. Also, I never store more than 6.5 to 7 oz in an 8 oz jar, needs room for natural fermentation.  Hope that helps you and I'm sure others will also share their thoughts.

KEEP ON PUFFING!!!

I agree. Vacuum sealed tins are usually fine, square tins can be problematic, round screw-top tins can be somewhere in between. Anything that comes in a bag or pouch gets tossed in glass as soon as I get it - better safe than sorry (and like Coyote said...glass jars are pretty inexpensive - cheaper than replacing the tobacco if it goes south on you, at any rate).

Dunbar is good stuff! If you get the 8oz bags definitely jar it, and the plus side, you can split it 4 ways (or as many ways as you like i.e. 2 - 4oz jars, 4 - 2 oz jars, whatever) and only tap into the one jar at a time, while the other jars continue to age in their own respective jars.

I have some Dunbar I've done this with last year. Of course, at the end of the day it is ultimately your decision.
