I'd be grateful of some guidance from the folks in the know.

Can anyone recommend a truly sweet and mild aromatic that I can buy in Blighty?

Many thanks in anticipation,

Stick.

Not sure about what you can or cannot buy in Blighty, but one of the most satisfying, mellow, sweet smokes out there for me is Orlik Golden Sliced. It's not technically an aromatic but it I think it has a very pleasant room note.

Yup, just asked Mr Google if we have it over here and he came up trumps. Not a bad price too for 50g. Thanks for the tip off!

You're very welcome, if you try it I hope you find it to your liking.

Check out this thread. There are some that you can get in ol' Blighty.

Brewdude, you're a true gent.  Interesting to see that McB's 7 seas reg was favoured by some as an aromatic.  It's become my go to smoke.  Lots of good info there, thank you.  How's that cup of tea coming on?
Glad to help Stick, and with great tobacconists like James Barber, Gauntleys, and MrTobacco (Glynn Quelch, formerly of Gauntleys), there ought to be a fertile field for you to play in with your quest.

And tea is right enough. Ta very much for asking mate!

 ;)

Cheers,

RR

Many of those suggested are simply not available where you're at.

I'm thinking most, if not all of the Perterson blends are probably easy to find there.

I suggest you tip toe through the tulips on those Petersons.

Where to start?  Peterson Nutty Cut.

Good morrow Brewdude,

Upon your recommendation I've sidled into Gauntley's online shop and had a quick peep. Oh boy! Their Cherry and Vanilla mix looks just the ticket for an apprentice like me. I must also share with you that I found myself entertaining the thought, 'well, whilst I'm here I might as well look at the pipes'. Oh dear, I discovered some real beauties. The BCs look delightful and are in my current price range of what I'd be prepared to pay. I think, yes, I think this could be the onset of PAD... Help me Brewdude. Is there a known cure or shall I just go with it....?

you might also check out Gawith & Hoggarth's American series (American Delite-- supposedly their version of Lane 1-q, a very popular aromatic here; Cherry & Vanilla; Sweet Peach; Coffee Caramel).  They make other mixtures you might wish to consider as well

Anyone noticed something interesting here? An Englishman looking for unavailable American style aromatic pipe tobacco and so many Americans wanting unavailable English tobacco !!  hmmmmm

The grass is always greener etc. etc., I guess  :D

Thanks DrT. Recon I'll be needing a fair sized cellar for all these mixes! Quite liking the sound of the cherry and vanilla, and the coffee and caramel...

Good evening Brewdude,

Upon your recommendation I've just placed an order with Gauntleys; a MacB 'go to' for me and a hand blended aro. I'll let you know how they go...

Gauntely's is is first class operation, and no mistake Stick. Please let us know how you get on with those.

And don't forget Glynn Quelch was instrumental in many of the Gauntley's offerings, and now has his own business and is blending his personal blends at Mr.Tobacco.

Thank you Brewdude Sir. I've seen Glynn's name a few times during my travels on the internet super highway so will look him up as Mr Tobacco. I'm hoping there's a parcel for me before the weekend as I'm rather looking forward to trying the hand blend aro. I'll keep you posted...

That made me chuckle Monbla! I'm not sure how, but would like to think I could help you lovely folk across the pond with finding your English blends of choice...

Well gentle folk, I arrived home today to find a parcel on the door mat marked Gauntleys of Nottingham.  Keen to get stuck in I loaded my pipe with a bowlful of the hand blended cherry and vanilla.  A very satisfying and agreeable smoke ensued.  Apologies but my palate isn't as refined as most of yours but, suffice to say, it was definately the sweetest smoke I've managed to find.  No tongue bite or gurgle, just the ticket for a novice like me.  I recon I've found a new favourite tobacco.  A big thank you must go to Brewdude for Gauntleys tip off; thank you Sir.   :D

So very glad to hear this worked a charm for you mate. First rate is Gauntley's, and no mistake.

I'm not an aro smoker myself as I pretty much go to ginnys and VaPers, but whatever ticks your fancy in your pipe voyage is right enough.

Cheers,

RR
