Here's a couple of before & after shots. This one took a bit of effort, but I was pleased with the results. I learned that this pipe is identical to a Wellington, which itself is a Peterson System pipe reproduction. (the pipe is stamped "Pietro"). My friend, Steve Laug tells me there were notorious for having very thin stems, particularly at the bend and overtime a cleaner will work a groove and then hole in the top of the stem. Sure enough, this one had a small hole under the oxidation. I rebuilt that section of vulcanite using black superglue in multiple layers. I think it will hold up, but I advised Tom against heavy clenching. Or, have someone like Floyd Norwood make a new stem (should be easy on this military bit). I have to do a full write-up but here's a sneak peak.

:affraid:  THAT'S ANOTHER PIPE !! :affraid:  THAT CAN"T BE THE SAME ONE !!! Absolutely AMAZING !!

Lovely, lovely writeup about the restore and Father_Tom. You write as well as you restore pipe. That's very well, BTW.

It has been fun to watch the process, and I had no idea the pipe would ever look this great. I have never polished a stem in my life, and they move through the rotation quickly enough that they don't collect dust. If it smokes well, I just keep smoking it.

It has been good to have it back! Thanks again Al!

Thank you. I write mostly for technical manuals (restaurant operation procedures), so I tend to stay a little, er, dry...
