Hey, hi and hello,
For a little over 2 years now I've been interested in pipes, pipe smoking and everything else associated with the hobby. I've collected several pipes in those two years just for the pure beauty I see in a pipe, however I have yet to even smoke one, the reason being (I'm 21 by the way), I've lived my life up to this point rather straight edge, not for any real deep or well thought out reasons, perhaps just to have something I could say about myself. I've never thought of myself to be better or healthier or wiser than anyone who doesn't lead that lifestyle, just a choice I made as a child and happened to stick.
Now, with that aside, my point is that's the past, I've thought long and hard these past two years about what I might gain out of smoking a pipe and what I could lose. The pro's, from what I've gathered, heavily outweigh the con's. I've done plenty of research on the art of pipe making and smoking (didn't get into too much detail about the potential health concerns because to me, ignorance is sometimes more blissful than not). I consider myself fairly knowledgeable in the pipe smoking classroom, but those are book smarts, not street smarts if you get my drift... So what I'm asking of you fine people are simple suggestions for me as a future pipe smoker, anything at all. As I said, I have 5 pipes in my rotation with number 6 on the way this week. Said rotation includes a Peterson 303 System Standard, and Brigham Acadian with their nifty little filter set up (not sure how I feel about filters, even having never smoked, I just don't see myself liking them or the idea of replacing them and from what I've read they're just a nuisance), I also have another Peterson Donegal Rocky 03, both Peterson's are equipped with the p-lip as well, yet another Peterson Kenmare 87 and finally a Bauer calabash. The pipe on the way in a Bjarne which caught my eye last night, had to have it.
So we have a smoking virgin, 6 reputable pipes, no tobacco to speak of (any suggestions?), I've got my matches, pipe tool and fancy little jars with rubber seals to keep the to be suggested tobacco in.
What am I missing? What do I need to know?
Thanks in advance folks.
