Recently bought this Ser Jacopo R1 from a friend. My first SJ. It's a fantastic smoker . . . one of the best I've had. I love the shape and the feel in my hand. Light as a feather, too.

They, like Ardor, were really a forward thinking maker, and they're even more so now. I associate the briar calabash with them. It was their signature shape back when they were introduced to the US market. I never see those things come up for resale either. BIG pipes. Bigger pipes than I care to smoke anymore. I sold off my collection in the 90s, and there are two pipes I'd love to get back. I watched one of them come up for auction around ten years ago, but I wasn't in the position to throw money at it. The other one is a Ser Jacopo, and I have yet to see it come up for sale or auction. I'd never smoke it if I did get it back. HUGE egg, it was.

Yours is post-1997, when they changed from the coral dot to the silver J.
