New tNd pipe came this morning from Croatia serial number is P2211 so you can see pictures on his site.

http://tnd-pipes.com/pipes/

I smoke first third of Sillems black in it and i must said its a good smoker.
There is no feeling that there is something in hole or feeling that the hole is to thin.
i will write more when I break in the pipe and i will have first smoke from full pipe.
See you than.

here are the pictures of how the pipe was made.
The drawing:

Nice choice. I like the way the grain swirls around the bowl. He has some unusual styles, that are a little too non-traditional for me, but your choice is just right.

You can order any stile, pipe wood... just send him a picture and your wishes and he will advice you and tell options

How much did it run you> if you don't mind me asking. I am looking for an olive wood pipe as I type this.

Thanks

Jay

WOW,
Great Olive wood pipe Devon. Let us know how it smokes.

I really like the way the lines flow, looks like a great smoker. Congrats! 8)

Very nice. I'm interested in trying an olive wood, so I'm looking forward to the report. Especially want to know what kinds of "tastes," if any, the olive wood adds to the tobacco.

I have another question about the olivewood.

To me, olivewood "looks" like a softwood, but obviously it cannot be. In holding the olivewood, does it give the feeling of being rock-hard, the way that briar does?

Also, what about the weight compared to approximately the same size pipe made of briar? Are they about the same?

Again, beautiful pipe. Thanks for posting.

The olive wood pipe that I have has about the same heft as a briar pipe. Perhaps it is a smidgen not as dense, but it feels very similar. I also feel that it smokes the same as a briar pipe.

I enjoy it all the way around.

olive wood is a bit heavier than briar ... when you sand down briar wood it is like you are sanding down a plastic material or something - it feels dense and like there are no lines in the wood... very compact feeling... olive wood will try to grab onto the sanding wheel... you can easily sand more than you would like (not much but enough to leave tool markigns that are in fact a lot harder to remove than when removing problems in briar)... olive wood is simply "pain in the as*" to sand down - it feels like it is harder to sand when you are sanding with hands but you can make unwanted marks while using a dremel tool or similar... in my opinion - olive wood is harder to make something out of - briar is a very nice and good material to work with - the i came so far related wood... i love it...
olive wood - well... i don't like it as much but it has a certain something that makes me work with - a certain special material...
you can compare briar to a friend - a good friend... and olive wood - well it is a lover... very special one... a pain in the as* one, but makes you feel good :).. something like that... :)
hope it is clear enough and that it makes any sense :)
regards guys :)

So I'm guessing olivewood can be compared to a female, hence the title of the thread...

So far so good .I used honey method for breaking the pipe and now it has nice chorcoal layer.
It fell on the floor when smoking and there is just a little mark of accident on it ,she is hard as a rock.
It is a big pipe so last time when I smoked it packed full of Sillems Black it was a 3 hour smoke.

About taste of olive, only experianced smoker can tell a difference betveen olive and briar.
This is my first pipe wich has hole in the bowl on the bottom in the middle of the bowl.So tobacco is burning even on all sides of the bowl.
My other pipes looks like the hole is more from the side of the bowl., so tobacco is heating side near the face more than the other side. And when you are tamping the ash you can block hole easyer than on my Olive.

I must said that I am done with Petersons, Stanwells and other brands wich makes big series of pipes.I will save money and buy one from pipe maker who make pipes by hand. Its SO BIG difference.

AND

are pipe makers where I will buy pipes from now

This thread and others show more of an interest in olive wood pipes than I've ever seen on this board before.

I especially like that you can smoke them daily.

I've never tasted an olive taste in the two olive pipes I own.

heheheh... wait until you try St. Lucie Cherry... those alternative wood materials are so pushed aside but without any good reason... Olive wood is a very nice material, very good to smoke... St.Lucie Cherry is also the case.. very good wood, very hard, a pleasure to smoke... i am soo happy with mine... to bad i have only one block or maybe two left for pipes... have to find more of this material... it is really good...
