Smokin in the cold

1. What is the coldest temp that you smoked your pipe?
2. What is the coldest temp that you smoked your pipe AND enjoyed it?
I got down to 25 degrees last night AND I did enjoy it.

32 last night. I don't remember how cold it was in Austin when I was in there for a Thanksgiving. I was outside an Irish Pub, sipping Guiness and scotch, smoking some English blend.

And yes, I did enjoy it. It is a pleasant 59 degrees here right now, hope it stays cool, and I've been smoking since 7 am sipping tea. Not sure if I'm going anywhere. If I stay home all day, I'll crack some Guiness or some whiskey in a bit.

I've had some good post-meal smokes around the freezing point. Below that, I just wait to get inside (or tide myself over with snuff.)

It took me a minute to grok why anyone would concern themselves with smoking outside their house. You know, instead of any time they wanted, as much as they wanted... With a filled-and-ready-to-light pipe next to each of the ashtrays found in every room of the house... And match-filled shot glasses next to them, and tobacco jars everywhere. I'm with LL on this one. Don't think I've smoked below 65. :lol:

Most of my smoking is done in the evening in my recliner, if it's a little cooler in the house I grab a blanket or crank up the heat.

As to the coldest, if cigars count I "lived" in Pangnertong (if you can call it living) as a grad student for several months. It's an Inuit village on Baffin Island, north of Frob. Bay. We drove up to the arctic circle, lit up a puro, slammed down a few shots of top-end Slivovitz (a Serbian plum brandy that at it's best tastes like Zippo lighter fluid), got back in the car, and drove back. I seem to recall the temp. was around twenty something below, but with wind chill it was just over 50 below. I don't remember if I enjoyed the cigar, as Slivovitz has that impact on one.

I do smoke in the house, but sometimes it's nice to enjoy the outdoors. With the kid coming, I will soon only smoke outside myself. Do they make weather proof tv's?

I mostly smoke in my MANCAVE, the rare times I smoke outdoors in the winter, I've never really noticed that it tastes different, but it is harder to enjoy it ...

Outdoors? You mean where it's windy and hot in the summer and windy and cold in the winter. Nah, only smoke where there's no breeze, always 70 degrees or so, in my recliner...as in indoors. earl

The Mrs likes the smell of Latweed blends, not so much for the Virginia stuff.. (No I didn't typo that)
She doesn't actually complain unless I go insane and try to smoke an aromatic in the house, she says they smell ok when burning but leave the house smelling like cheap cigars... Naturally I have grown suspicious, I don't smoke cheap cigars. :affraid: :affraid:

PB does your wife come from the reverse planet Htrae? Her preferences seem the absolute reverse of every woman I've ever heard of. Usually they like the aromatics, will tolerate the VA's and can't stand Latakia :affraid:

Hm... I rode in JD's car at TJ's Sonora gathering, and asked him about the box of Hav-a-Tampas on the dash. He said he never goes on trips without 'em. Just sayin'.

Well gentlemen,

I only get to smoke outside but luckily i have appropriate attire for all kinds of weather. I usually go for a walk down a trendy street with a soft cotton t-shirt, covered with a decent plaid flanel, underneath a fine heavy coat, with my Calgary flames scarf and earclips on, dextrous thinsulate gloves so my tamper and matches can be utilized, Patchwork flat cap from Donegal for a bit of style, a heavy denim pant with thermal socks on and a basic leather shoe be it oxblood or black.

Only after all this is on am i able to enjoy a smoke in our fine Edmonton Summers. As for winter well, I must wait for a chinook i guess!

All time low probably -35 degrees Celsius :santa:

Cold does not bother me and we don't usually get extremely cold here anyway. I don't smoke in the house much, only when it is completely miserable and I am really jonesing for a smoke. Then I turn on the air purifier and/or window fan. I do have the option of going out to one of my buildings in the back where I have a heater and couch for sitting.

I think it was 30ish Saturday night, but I was in the garage so don't guess that really counts. Can't smoke in the house but the garage seems to work ok, Just wish I had room for a couch out there.
