Sounds like a nice place to work!! And your lucky to have a nice sounding space avaialable for a smoke :p
Trees, moss, dappled sunlight, and tons of cute little toads and baby garder snakes. Also a Rottweiler in the neighboring yard who would be happy to tear my throat out :D It's paradise!

You guys suck monkeys. I'm so jealous of those of you who can smoke at work.

How long ago would it have to have been for me to smoke my pipes in the classroom while teaching 8th Grade U.S. History?

Now I'm limited to a quick 25-minute smoke on the way to work. My district is "tobacco free" which means I don't dare take a puff while even in the parking lot. Not that anyone is out to get me, but I don't want trouble from an overzealous parent on a crusade.

I was told by a friend of mine that teaches 8th grade in Colorado that there is definitely no tobacco on campus, but if you want guns, knives, pills, coke, pot, meth or anything else, just ask around a little.

Smoking at work does affect other people, I recognize that. The crusading beyond that into personal space is something I don't get. You should be able to smoke a pipe in your car or outside a building.

Plus, I'm one of those "I hate cigarettes," kind of people--but that's just my opinion. It simply means I don't smoke them and avoid them when I can. It ain't that hard.

Before I retired, a co-worker and I were sitting in his office about an hour after close of business. We'd been caught in a verrrry loooong and booooring meeting. The company had campus-wide anti-smoking regs. All of a sudden my co-worker began sniffing the air. Then he picked up the phone, called security and complained someone on the floor was smoking cigs. He actually met the guards at the entrance and accompanied them on a hunt for the perp. It was another guy who'd been stuck in the same meeting, was clearing his e- and phone mail, so he wouldn't have to do it in the morning. I can see how the "stitches for snitches" thing got started. Granted, my co-worker was the dept drama queen. And granted the HVAC system was awful. It circulated internal air, but didn't bring in fresh air from the outside.

The kids who used to be tattle-tales in school are now anti-smoking vigilantes, as evidenced by the above story.

What a baby.

Sadly, the WORST are former cig smokers. Seems the several I know, take it upon themselves to crusade against ALL smoking! Almost like they are trying to make up for their past "sin" :p

I can understand and relate. As a former cigarette smoker, I was having a hard time balancing my joy of breaking free of one of the worst addictions to kick, and blaming the cigarettes themselves. Do I crusade, though? Nah. My father is a pretty avid "anti" in that regard, he's also a former cigarette smoker. He's had a tough time accepting my pipe hobby, and he's had to be re-educated about what pipes actually mean to the smoker and why the aren't the same.

I wish pipes and pipe tobacco wasn't so intertwined with the cigarette industry for a multitude of reasons. :| It is what it is, though.

Yip. Part of this company's underground was it was okay to keep a cold six-pak in your car and head for the parking garages at lunch. But smokers were relegated to the worst spot near the loading ramps, come sun or wet.
