I scrubbed it with a magic eraser until the brown color stopped coming off. but i still can't get rid of the sulphur smell...any one know how to get rid of the smell?

Bugs, you can soak it an OxyClean and water mix, but afterwards the finish will be a little rough, and need to be polished back to a shine. If you don't have micromesh pads, it could take you quite a while to get it back to a like new premium shine.

Yea i've been trying to avoid the soak because i don't have the micro mesh. I scrubbed for a few hours and it seems likes i got the oxidation out so does it need the soak? Is there another way to get the smell off since the its back to being black? One thing I noticed is when i added a little alcohol to the magic eraser and it made the pipe smell REALLY foul where it was wet with alcohol. What causes this? Is that bringing the sulphur causing oxidation out or is ti causing oxidation? I don't get it...but yea i was hoping I could just scrub the smell off since I scrubbed it back to black. Bugs, your stem is rubber, and the alcohol is stripping the chemicals out of the rubber, which gives the rubber it's pliable qualities. In some applications, doing this can make rubber harder and more durable, but this really isn't what you need when it comes to pipe stems, since you are tasting them each time you smoke, and also want them to shine for cosmetic reasons.

The micro mesh isn't readily available locally in most areas. You will most likely get it in your hands the quickest by ordering it online. If it were me, I would use the Oxy soak and micromesh, or send it off to Mike Myers at Walker Pipe Repair. Here's a link to his site-

Thanks for the advice. i scrubbed it pretty good and what i found is that when its dry the smell is gone. but if i wet it with the magic eraser its starts to stink.

Do you guys know any way to get this off? The smell seems to be gone and i think if i coat it with polish it might be fine. I also have the option to send the pipe back and get it fitted for a new stem, vulcanite or lucite...i'm a little hesitant to send it back because i like it and it will be so long before i get to smoke it. What do you y'all think

Bugs, is the Lucite stem going to be free? If so, I would definitely send it back.

At this point it is obvious that you and vulcanite stems aren't exactly compatible. Also, I would probably request a Lucite stem color other than green.

yup free, i don't mind the vulcanite its just that it the oxidation was showing up right out of the box

After months of only searching out straight dark stained billiards, i stand by what I said. It's pretty damn near impossible to find a nice straight dark stained billiard. They all have such fruity touches. I check the savinelli's on smoking pipes pretty regularly and I can't find what I'm looking or. I have bought three punto oro's for well under 200 dollars that are great, but why can't savinelli just put out a plain straight billiard without a dark stain? I don't a pipe that looks like a bumble bee or a piano. I want a simple classic pipe. rossi have a couple that are, and I would buy them even with the stupid rossi logo, but i'm afraid the draw is going to be way to tight.
