Because this is an interesting thread to me (I'm looking for my own interpretation of the OP) -

Peterson Gold and 7 Seas Gold. The Pete blend is my current favorite. It's not candy store sweet like ES, but has a great room note from what I'm told.

Both are half way between aromatic and non-aromatic. Like some, I really don't get far into the latakias, and I'm tired of the "Evening Strolls" of the world. I'm looking for something less sweet and more tobacco-ie. To that end, I'm exploring some bulk non-aromatics as cutting agents for my favorite aromatics. I'm not there yet, but I'm getting there.

So, after reading this thread and having no real contribution to make, I was poking around the intertubes and I came across a TR listing for Low Country: Black. The TR description of the blend seems to be exactly what you are looking for:

Warm and earthy, with a light and lingering sweetness that is carefully interwoven with a subtle smokiness.
The tin description sounds pretty good too:

A bold, swarthy blend of bright viginias, tempered with stoved reds, joins fragrant latakia, with just a hint of sweetness supplying the prefect denouement. Fragrant, earthy and redolent of our adumbral wetlands, Low Country Black celebrates the beauty that can be found in the least expected places.

After reading thru all replies and taking your two key words, Sweet and Earthy My OPINION would be that you give some St. Va;s a try. No VaPers, VaLats just some straight, sweet Va blends/mixtures. I would highly recomend three that you can get in bulk from McClelland's, Fragrant Matured 2000, my fave, 2010 Classic Virginia and 5115 Old World Classic. All three are what I would classify as and "sweet/earthy" blend/mixture and when sipped, are some very nice ALL TOBACCO tasting smokes. And I've been told by other non-smokers that I've smoked these around that they "smell good". JMHO

Wow...it hadn't occurred to me that there is such a wide variation in what is meant by "earthy". But upon further reflection, I should have known better.

Ah, well...in the absence of any terminological standards, I might as well rejoin the revelry and recommend two completely different tobaccos that should help increase the confusion. One is McClelland's bulk 5120 Fragrant Virginia Ribbon. It's a straight Virginia, with a fruity touch. I wouldn't call it a non-aromatic, but then neither is McC 5115. If pure Ginnyweed is enough to count for "earthy", then both 5115 and 5120 qualify.

The other is Gawith Hoggarth's Sweet Coconut Twist ropeweed. It has the primordial, crude oil earthiness of brown rope that comprises dark-fired wrapper, dark-fired filler, and air-cured leaf. The rope is top-dressed with coconut scenting to give it an interesting hint of sweetness.

All of the tobacco in GawHoggie's ropeweed, by the way, is India-grown Virginia leaf, and its special "earthiness" comes with a hefty helping of vitamin N—enough to set you down on all fours if you puff too greedily, especially on low blood sugar. So, while it does fit the "straight Virginia" criterion mentioned by Brothah monbla, I suspect that it's prolly not exactly what he had in mind when he recommended straight Ginnyweed with a touch of flavoring.

In fact, as someone who has smoked all of the bulk McC bulk straight Virginia weedages on the one hand, and the GH Sweet Coco Twist ropeweed on the other, I can tell you that there there is virtually no resemblance between the two, except "sweet" and "earthy"...wherein "earthy" means "tastes like some kind of tobacco".

Hearth & Home "Sweet & Savory"
While I never got an "earthy" note from that one, it does stand as perhaps the most unique tobacco I've enjoyed, and I do recommend it. It's not aromatic, but it is certainly quite different.

See, that's odd. I kind of get a peaty kind of "twang" every now and again. (that of course and the almost BBQ like taste of the blend)

Try sweet vanilla honey dew. It is not earthy at all, however it is a great aromatic that retains its tobacco flavor throughout the bowl.
