Autumn is coming! Which tobacco are you stocking up on? I've been eying my jar of Frog Morton and looking at picking up some McC Deep Hollow or FM Cellar. Craftsbury blends make for great smokes for an evening stroll. Light and tasty. My Penzance and Balkan Sobranie (score!) will have to wait until it gets closer to November. Maybe.

I'm hoping the (new) BS will match Germaine's other blends sophistication. Penzance was impressive IMO.

Do you get a fall nip in Florida?

I usually enjoy darker, stronger earthy tobaccos in the cool months like GH & co's Conniston plug unscented and Curly Cut regular. Another tobacco I enjoy and seem to connect with crisp fall/winter days is Heinrich's Dark Strong flake (Orlik Dark Strong Kentucky). I'm on the email alert for this stuff with several vendors as it is pretty scarce at the moment.

The first real fall weather we'll get here in Nor Cal is early November.

My tastes in tobacco don't really change, but I always pick up a bottle of Calvados for those fall nights when its too cold to sit outside and smoke, but you do anyway...

I do crave a bit more latakia in the colder weather. SG Navy, Lancer's Slices, and maybe a bit of Sextant are likely to move toward the front of the cabinet.

I guess I'm heavier on VAs in the warm months, Latakia in the cold ones, but it's really "some of this, some of that" all year round for me. It's been a while since I've had a tin of Blackpoint open, though...and I think that once the leaves start to turn I'll be popping one open.

I probably won't switch it up too much this fall, however Margate will come out this winter, as well as Silver Flake.

I don't change my 'baccy's too much; but will hit the Lancer's Slices, Penzance, SOTE/Flake, Northwoods, BS, Balkan Sasieni GLP Latweeds, and der Frawg a bit harder when the temps fall. This summer in the heartland has been so mild that I've been able to enjoy many more evenings puffing on good weed than is usual. Plus, of course, I'll stick to my favorite ginnyweeds, Burley's, and two/three sorta aromatics that I like!! FTRPLT

Very little of that "Fall nip" down here, Maybe one/two weeks then we have our two months of Winter, one week of Spring then it's our 10 months of Summer so I just smoke ALL of my ginny weeds, Balkans etc year round !

I smoke outside so every time I have tried to enjoy a Lat blend, I end up getting a little green in the heat. All Burleys and Virginias in the heat for me. Even my ODF and Irish Flake has been a little to heavy. Almost had to crawl back inside after smoking a bowl of GH Bosun Cut.

I'm ready for the 90 degree / 90% humidity to be done. And I like the summer months. Fall is my favorite though. Going to make some cider this weekend.

I have my eye on a tin of Charring Cross in the cellar that has just over one year of age on it. I think that'll be the next one to get cracked.

Neil,
Watch that Charring Cross. There is this old guy with a beard who's always caging a bowl full. Shows up out of nowhere wearing strange attire. Carries a little stick and mumbling about getting to 9 3/4. Not sure he all there but don't tell him I said so.

About the only English I have around is PS Proper English. Nice mid-road blend.

I see from the weather reports you've had to return our warm weather to us.

I opened a tin of GLP Meridian today. Seemed like just the thing with the changing weather. I'm not really a seasonal smoker but I hadn't had this in a while. I'm glad I opened it! 8)

Meridian is great. One of my current favorites.

Don't seem to have any seasons where switching up blends are concerned. Pretty much smoke the same tried and true stuff year round.

VA/VaPers primarily. Burley blends next, and the occasional blend where the Lat-weed is not overly pronounced.

Anyway it's still summer here in the Pac NW.

Cheers,

RR

I am finishing my tin of Blockade Runner and Balkan Saneisi (or was it sobranie? I made the mistake of opening both at the same time. I have one in a jar to be tapped into after the other is done, just cant remember which witch is which.)

That being said, I will be opening a tin of something to fill a spot in the rotation. I was hoping to get into a tin of key largo while I was down by the east coast, but I think I will just hold it til next summer.

I have several tins which are approaching a year in my "cellar" and a few fresher tins. I think royal yacht or might be the next to be opened. Maybe HH ODF?

I have another bowl of blockade runner to think about it... probably will have my first bowl from the new tin next week. That being said... JKenP is right... it JUST got hot up here. Hard to believe it happened the same week school started again.

I usually reserve McClelland Tudor Castle to celebrate or to have on some special occasion. But when it gets cold outside, in the evening I like to get the fireplace going, fill my old bent Design Berlin billiard with Tudor Castle and get it lit, put some Emmylou Harris and Neil Diamond on the stereo, grab an iced tea and a good Charlie Moon Mystery by James Doss. My wife's in her chair crocheting or working a Sudoku puzzle. Makes for a warm cozy pleasant evening with a smoke that's magnificent. :king: :D

Jefe, I picked up a tin of Key Largo a while back. Tasty. It seems to be a VA with some eastern depth -- just a touch. I like it a lot and it should make a nice fall smoke. I'd call it an intermediate with a darker hint than you standard VaPer. Didn't notice a lot of Perique which GP seems to like adding more than some. I don't know if you'll like the added depth that much but I did.

A spell of cool weather prompted me to order my autumn shipment which included Old Dark Fired, Essence of Vermont, and Chocolate Flake.

While not necessarily my autumn blends, I also picked up a tin of BCF (a little more Lakeland than is my preference but clearly quality), Astley 44 (which I haven't tried yet) and I picked up a some Hamborger Veermaster for aging.
