Just off our side yard, the annual spring turkey games. These guys are going back and forth all day long now, all puffed up and chasing each other about.

Reminds me of some participants on a paleoanthropology board I haunt :lol!:

Turkeys are loud, but fortunately, they're delicious.
Actually, wild turkeys aren't all that good to eat. I used to hunt them a lot but gave up on it as I couldn't even give away the darned things. If you have to go through a bunch of brining and care to enjoy the tough old bastard, it just ain't worth it. Doves, quail, pheasants, teal, all great eaters. Turkeys, geese, you can have em.

They make a hell of a mess too. Between where I was standing shooting that video (patio) and the side hill the birds were on is my wife's flower garden. Every year they trample and dig up countless plants in search of bugs. We even had to move the fountain and bird bath to the outside edges of the flower bed because they'd stomp all over the flowers to get to these things for a drink. And they crap all over the place too. They aren't even afraid of the dog. They're cool to watch but they're a PIA!

Strange, the wild turkeys in North Carolina are damned good to eat.

Been seeing plenty of them turned into great feathery splotches along the parkway. As roadkill goes, it's actually bizarrely pretty.

(I imagine Foghorn Leghorn saying, "I say, nice folks, but not too bright.")

If it is wild, it won't kill me or make me sick, and I can kill it quick and humane it will be on my dinner plate. there are a few exceptions such as possums, skunk or any of the few cat species, or any dog species. To give you an idea of how I am I have ate snapping turtle, alligator, bear (supposidly greasy but can't prove it to me), mallard, canadian geese (same as bear in the greasy dept). The list of what I won't eat may change if someone will try them with me.

My next move will be getting some help or a book on mushroom hunting, I get a ton of them near my house every year but am afraid to mess with them.

I'm partial to beaver myself, but you've gotta be careful with the musk glands. Coming home smelling like beaver is asking for trouble.

The geese and turkey generally we just cut out the breast.

I need to really get a smoker, smoked turkey is the best! I am willing to try other game in it as well.

If you're going to get a charcoal/wood smoker (which gives the best flavor anyway), get a Weber Smokey Mountain. Whatever you do, don't get the cheapo model from Wal-Mart or Lowes. The metal is about the same thickness as a beer can and you can't regulate their temperature worth a crap. The Weber is worth the extra bucks.

I was actually planning on saving money and buying a small mig welder and making a smoker/grill/ bbq pit of epic proportions. I have several ideas running through my head on designs (another benifit to pipe smoking)
