Does the cap screw on or push one? And do they have two chambers, or is it an extra long mortise linked to the chamber by an short airway? I'm really curious about the constuction and wasn't joking about using some scrap briar to make one.

I really don't want to buy one to find out though :D

Not to highjack the thread,,,,or maybe it ties in with the "if I want a cigar I'll buy one" idea, BUT, if cigars were offered rolled with pipe tobacco I'd be in for a few boxes. Sometimes it's too windy for a pipe and certain pipe tobaccos would blend well with a maduro wrapper.
I know of a couple guys that have rolled their own with great success and it seems like a better alternative than $150 briar cigar.

i too would buy some of these. they would have to be a shorter length though as im not sure i could handle a 3 hour smoke

The Briar Pipe doesn't look like it's really for me, but I've long wanted a straight horn shape. It would be fun to work the bowl from the outside in.

I'm sure you meant cigar.

Well, I'm intrigued.

i would get one... if it was priced better. im a sucker for novelty pipes.

also, in response to kyle, I have a vest pipe and it gives me nothing but good smokes whenever i use it. its a savinelli, so that may have something to do with it.
I agree, I too would really like to have one just in my collection. But, $160 is a bit steep for a rack sitter. Maybe next year.

If you read the Dunhill Pipe Book, you will see the tube shaped pipe is not a new idea. There are illustrations drawn all in the book.

The tube pipes may have existed with the Mayans. There is a sketch of a person smoking it while lying in their back. The explanation was to make the pipe stick up in the air so the tobacco would not fall out.

Yes, I would imagine there are the same as the Torpedo pipe in design and I have two of those in my collection so this would be right at home.

I would imagine you'd have to pack pretty tight so the bacco won't fall out, no? Cigar ash is usually not that loose and I could get a good long ash going but with this thing.... I'll pass on it because it looks corny to me. TEHO though.

The only valid comparison between this and a cigar is the appearance. This is a reverse calabash tube pipe made to look like a cigar but smoke like a pipe.

From what I understand, you cut you tobacco up a bit to make the pack easier, but you don't pack it tightly to keep it from falling out. Once lit, tobacco expands.

Old timers would pack and light their pipes as usual. If it started to rain, they would turn the pipe upside down.

For anyone missing out on the "Zeppelin" conversation, here's a photo of one I sold a couple months back:
