My new ebay aquisitions arrived
one "The Pipe" straight stem with a slightly tapered bowl silouette
and one "the Smoke" quarter bent with a red bowl

They both like brand new with no "Issues" so I gave them a try.
I'm not knocking briar pipes , but I'll have to say
these would be hard to beat. They draw well they stay lit
and they are a dream to clean.

When they come up on ebay they usually go at modest prices
I think this is due to their not being familiar to most folks

I think they are very good.

Part of the reason why I smoke pipes is the natural look and craftsmanship of briar--with the exception of meerschaum and cobs, which have their own merit and quality, some of these "space-age" pipes seem to lack the soul and look I've come to really adhere to in comparison to briar.

The PIPE and The SMOKE have their fans and appreciators, I'm likely not going to be one of them.

The history and story, on the other hand, is interesting. I found this a month or so ago, and whether people like them or not, they are a part of the pipe saga:

I like them. Reminds me of a time in my life that I enjoyed very much. Makes me want to get in my Pinto and put Aerosmith's Toys in the Attic in my 8-track player and go to the dunes...

I've got to get a couple for my collection! :D
What's a "Pinto" and an "8 track player" ?

Lol...only kidding. Don't worry, you aren't that old yet. ;)

How about a Rambler and listening to Paul Anka on 45s ! :p

 I still have a rotary phone on the stand next to me, the other day my nephew needed to make the call and asked me "how does this thing work?" LOL[/quote]

For the past 15 years I've joked that I want a rotary dial cell phone.

You can probably get an "app" for that :p

I bought a Le Pipe back in the day, when they first came out. They are made of some carbon compound I think. Hottest smoking pipe I ever owned.

One question: Do they make a freehand model? :p

Take that, Kaplan! Joke's on you! Heheheh.

I'm actually kind of surprised by it too, honestly. I mean, it looks like a chunk of rock, but kind of neat! 8)

That's alright, I still listen daily to a 1976 Pioneer Receiver (silver era) - you know, weighs 50-lbs, is all metal, and has that brushed aluminum front panel. Back when they built them by the pound. And yes, I use the older style Box Speakers - original Realistic Mach One's, no subwoofers needed! And definitely no little Cube speakers, they suck.

I can relate. My first car was one of these (not the one pictured, but damn close), $500, bought it when I was 15 in...what was that, '93? Drove it illegally for a year, lived in the back of it a lot from 1995 - 1997... spacious and gas friendly!

Seems the joke's on me indeed. I stand humbled by a funky-looking fake rock pipe. Time to call it a day...
