I enjoy it too. You can get some ridiculously good horchata in the town I live in. Very fresh and flavorful, nicely spiced. I love it on ice.

Well I succumbed. Ordered 2 tins of VC from Mars, along with a couple of tins of Dark Twist Roll Cake, a favorite smoke when the cool weather finally shows up, which it mercifully did. My last pound of DTRC is dwindling and winter isn't even here yet. If MacBaren hadn't nearly doubled their prices I'd have probably ordered a couple of pounds instead of a couple of tins.

I sent a reply to the promo asking how they could say "only" when it was available at many other vendors & made the comment that I was disappointed in the obvious deceptive tactic.

Well everyone that's "in the know" knows that Laudisi & Cornell & Diehl are sympatico, meaning that Smoking Pipes was going to be the first storefront to sell it, so perhaps P&C is trying to use a little deception to surprise the few stragglers who have been hiding under a rock for the last month or so.

Hmmm, last time I ordered from them, they offered a really reasonable USPS rate. That's too bad. High shipping rates really bug me.

I was happy to see Peretti correct this and to see Smoking Pipes offer a USPS option the last time I ordered, which was one week ago. Here on the left coast it's most ideal to get your tobacco in a few days rather than wait 5-6 business days plus a weekend for a damn UPS Ground package to arrive..  

I am quite conflicted over P&C.com because I think very highly of Russ Oullette. IMHO, the man's a national treasure and one of the kindest, most down to earth people you'll ever chat with. He's always answered all my crazy questions whether by email or by phone (and trust me I have asked a lot of them). Anyway, you can tell he's a genuinely enthusiastic person and absolutely loves what he does.  I want to support them because if him and if he wasn't there, I'd never shop there. None of my business but I hope they know how good of a guy they have in Russ.

Well Richard, I do.  It bothers me in general as I abhor dishonesty anywhere it pops up and it bothers me specifically as it might steer my business into a place whose practices I disagree with. In short it's a principle and a matter of character. Both are very important in how I live my life in and of itself and as a model to my children and in some small measure the broader world.

No action will be taken as I rather blame myself for having instigated the member's rezponse via a perhaps harsh series of negative judgements against a specific vendor. Given that the member is a known flamer and troller who requires continuous monitoring by myself and other Mods and Council members I should have known it would occur.

I should have taken my own advice and the high road and led not astray but by good example.
