The last site I was at over here I ended up getting 2 guys into pipe smoking pretty solidly, they ordered pipes and tobacco and were smoking right along with me. I had another 2 who had ordered pipes and were waiting on the mail. And one other pipe smoker there with me. There tend to be a lot of cigar smokers over here so the smoke sessions they have I occasionally join and that is when people actually start to find interest. Maybe it is easier to get people into pipes overseas than at home....although a buddy of mine I have known for 20 years is now a pipe smoker as well with a little nudging from me. So far I have had pretty decent luck with those I have tried to get into it.

I've given away a lot of pipes too, to friends, acquaintances, even nice strangers I see around. My former next-door neighbor Will got his first briar from me; all he had was clays and cobs, so I figured he'd enjoy it--and he does. The only other one I am confident will stick with it is my buddy James, who sent me a Facebook message:

"FYI, the Mix 925 is an excellent restorative. I smoked a bowl and it really got me going out of a funk. There really is something to this tobacco pipe thing...And for that I appreciate you turning me on to it!"

That, to me, says a thousand words--that, and he actually calls me up and says, "Wanna go hang out at the Tinder Box?" That's when ya know. ;)

One guy on here I gave a BUNCH of stuff to, GuitarMyFriend, about three pipes and a DIY Tinsky carver, went MIA for the most part, went AWOL on the bombings. I figured he'd have progress and stories of his carving within a few weeks--you just can't tell with people. Especially young ones. Focus and intent are acquired skills. Maybe it'll be more interesting one day.

None of it is wasted, because the sentiment and "pipe karma" is alive and well--it's their satisfaction (or lack thereof) in the end, you've already done your part by giving the tools and knowledge.

"pipe karma"

Now that is an awesome term for it Kyle. I wish I was home where I could send off tobaccos to someone I know would enjoy them from the forum here, but passing them off to others here, maybe someone will really get going also. Something about Frog Morton, Old Toby, Stash, and then the chocolate ones just has me hooked on them. I keep trying others but not loving them. I tried out C&D Evening Rise and, maybe it is the absence of Lat, I just don't like it in the slightest. I tried to give it to this young Marine who smokes a pipe but just found it left behind for the day, maybe it was absent mindedness but I will take it back to the tent and put it with the rest of my tobaccos for the time being. Oh well, no biggie.

Keep spreadin' the pipe love, Kaiser! I have a technique for that which involves a spear-gun, but I wouldn't recommend it where you are right now. The "recipients" are liable to return fire. :affraid:

I've been in touch with Guitar Zach off and on for little while, Kyle. I wouldn't turn the porch light off just yet. He doesn't have a computer right now, and I think he has a new girlfriend. Hell, if I start dating again you probably won't see me around for a while, either. ;)

Actually, that reinforces what I said earlier to a "T" I keep the porch light on just so I can see, everyone else is free to use the extra lumens. 8)
