RANDE You have an excellent memory with the Jackie Gleason Show, spot on. Also Art Carney made the Honeymooners SHINE. ONLY 39 original episodes. Of course a few years back a few more shows were found in the archives.

Andy Devine was the comic foil on "Wild Bill Hickok" ("Hey Wild Bill, wait for me), as well as the voice of "Heap-O-Calorie" on the Dick Tracy 'toons. And not to be forgotten, he was the major lead in one of the old Twilight Zone episodes, where he portrayed a serial liar.

Set in an old time country store, he was the shopkeeper, and frequently entertained his "court" with wild tales of his past accomplishments. And then an extraterrestrial spaceship who believed all his yarns thought he was the real deal and wanted to abscond with him.

He couldn't convince of them otherwise, that is, until he produced his mouth organ and proceeded to drive them away since they couldn't stand the sound. So the aliens left without their plans to conquer the earth. And then he went back to regaling his locals with tall tales around the pickle barrel and pot-bellied stove!

So ya, Andy Devine had a distinctive voice and I always recognized him in every role. In fact I remember asking my folks why he spoke that way and they said he'd had throat cancer. Whether that was true or not I don't know to this day.

And I did that all without the great God google........fancy that....
