Tobaccos to Trade or Sell

I have set aside about 200 tobaccos in mason jars that I no longer need in my collection. Some of these may be of interest to noobs or those still exploring different tobaccos. I'm willing to trade, or, for those who don't have much to trade, I'll sell five 1-ounce baggies for ten bucks including shopping (to the lower 48). The idea is to let other pipers try some new things and to help cut down a little on our TAD expenses.

No, attempts at an exact match is very tedious work. I don't have the knack or motivation. Maybe if Carl McAllister ever came out of retirement . . .

UPDATE: didn't expect such a feeding frenzy on the Penzance. I'm out of Penzance and the vintage Balkan Sobranie and a few other items. Here is the updated list. Next week I'll post Round Two with another fifty items.

In that McAllister created over 400 blends, I'd be very surprised if one isn't already very close. To clone Penzance you'd have to know exactly what soup was used to case each component tobacco.

At one point I thought about making an attempt, literally taking a couple of ounces of Penzance and separating out and measuring the components, but then I came to my senses, realizing that it was not just the components and their ratio to each other, but how each component had been uniquely processed (cased).

Exactly. I always taste a hint of almondine in Penzance so I tried making a blend of mostly Latakia and stoved Virginia spritzed with Watkins almond and a dash of Italian Disaranno Ameretto liquor. Not bad but nothing like Penzance!

Some years ago, I had a conversation with the late Kiki Berger about maintaining the consistency of flavor in a particular cigar, year after, from different tobacco crops. He said it's like Mc Donalds' Big Mac, "two all beef patties, tomatoes, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame bun" but what makes it a Big Mac is the special sauce. That all tobacco is cased and the casing is altered to maintain the consistency of flavor.

I do want to give a shout-out to Brunello for undertaking the task of packing and shipping sample packs. It's messy and tedious and only a generous person would undertake the task.

There’s a lot on the list I haven’t tried. Tempting, but I got tons of jarred tobacco. This is a great idea. I might do the same in the future.
