OK, time for a terrible joke.
To build an elephant trap:
1) Dig an enormous pit next to an elephant path.
2) Fill the pit with wood and burn it to cinders.
3) Bait the rim of the pit with fresh legumes.
When an elephant stops to take a pea, kick him in the ash hole.

I'm afraid I don't know why this french illustration would even exist. Perhaps it was drawn for the year of the rat? I know lobster is a new years treat in much of France, ex-wife is from Lyons. "Peace, Joy, Health, and Good Fortune."
