For the last few days I have been putting this lighter through the paces. I must admit it is a very, very nice product.

It is extremely robust. Machining is super and it feels very solid in hand. The flint wheel is deeply grooved and it operates fantastically. it has lit every time the first time struck. Awesome is all I can say.

The built in pick and tamper have no wobble and extremely tight tolorence. Positive spring loaded open and close. The tamper shape is perfect.

Anyone on the fence about these being imported junk can buy buy with confidence as it is a great product thus far. I have lit multiple cigars and bowls this week inside, outside, driving, sitting, with wind, with no wind and it hold a lit flame with the exception of heavy wind and driving at speed. I am pleased.

My buddy James has been eye-balling these (with some vicarious insisting from yours truly) so I'll send this to him and be the little devil on his shoulder for him to "go for it."

Thanks for the review.

Looks like a quality article! :D

It might also do away with that nasty choking thing I do when I accidentally inhale Zippo fumes during bottom of the bowl relights (thankfully it happens very rarely).

Regards

How do you refill it? I got a Bolbo at the Las Vegas show- and one of the things I've had some trouble with is refilling it. None of my extensions on the Vector gas seem to fit it and just using the nozzle itself is tricky...

Hi everyone,
I am new to brothers of briar and this is my first post.
Pipe smoking is more of a recent hobby for me and I have found this site informative and enjoyable.
I have been looking at the pearl eddies and from my research online it is defenitely one of the best lighters out there, said to surpass corona old boys in lighting quality and other areas. My question here is:
Does the fact that the PE lighter does not have an angle flame compromise on the lighting up of your pipe? In addition, the one flint egnition pipe lighter that I do have (a real cheapie), is not an angle flame. The lighter gets all black with soot because when I angle it to light my pipe, the flame touches the metal. This problem I would prosume does not occur with the corona old boys as they sport an angled flame. So my question is does your lighter get sooty at all?
Looking forward to replies...

The problem with any non-torch lighter is that the flame is going to rise. Even with the Old Boys, you still can't hold the lighter perfectly horizontal or the flame will rise back and touch the lighter. Granted it is easier with the Old Boy's angle.

Keep in mind that many of us use trusty old Bics with great success. My favorite is still the Zippo, though.

Yes, I suppose so. So does it leave soot on the metal?
I think I"ll make some time to head over to nat shermans in manhattan and check out their lighters-if they have pearl eddies in stock that is.

Soot has been minimal with this lighter. This has so far been a terrific lighter, one strike lights, refill seems to last forever.

Vector 5X fluid works best.

It looks nice; Old Boy Style. Have you heard anything about the fuel cap after prolonged use? The old boy get's kinda "off kilter" after a while. Still a great lighter. What is the cost of this one?

Have you tried the Vertigo Governor?

PipeLighters

i've had one for a while now. huge fan. don't leave home without it.

it seems very temperamental about fuel quality. i use the vector 5x stuff which it seems to like.

mine builds up notable soot. but it rubs off without drama.

doody.

I have been looking at getting a Bolbo ever since the Vegas Show.
I have also heard of the difficulty of refilling. I have not heard of a reliable filling method.
If anyone knows how to fill these Tsubota lighters without spraying every where, please speak up. :?:

I have also heard that they do not take a standard flint. Any input on this? :?:

i fill my pearl with just the vector nozzle as-is. yes, it sprays a bit. more than on my xikar, for sure, but that puts some spray out too.

i have some flints i got years ago (maybe when i bought a colibri torch?). they're generic and i had to slap one into the pearl about a month ago - no drama - worked great.

ymmv,
doody.

I just got mine and so far it is hands down the best made and working lighter I have ever owned
