Not looking for a buyer, just wondering, do you guys ever buy horn pipes? I have this piece of briar that is just screaming to become a horn pipe, and I am going to make it one way or another. I am just wondering if this will wind up becoming mine :)

I haven't up to now, but that's not to say I never would. I'm learning that that shapes I find cosmetically attractive have absolutely zero to do with how well they smoke, its taken me a while to get the message but I do have it now. I've seen some nice horns recently and if they are well made I'm sure they will also smoke great, so I'd be in!

I love the way a lot of horns look, but they usually aren't suited to my smoking style. I do have a couple Stanwell horns that are absolutely choice.

Let michaelangelo be your inspiration. He said that the forms of his statues were already in the marble, and his job was to free them from their prison.

Rev, it seriously doesn't matter what pipe shapes you make, as long as they're not completely bizarre, you will always find someone will want it, do it mate, someone will want it for sure. ;)

My overbite would mean any typical horn design would risk dumping tobacco and ash out constantly. Not for me.

To me, the horn is one of those shapes interesting to look at, but not to buy or to smoke. Its main disadvantage is having a bowl that is canted forward. It also looks somewhat ridiculous hanging from one's mouth. ;)

I never thought I would. I like the looks of them, but always thought they would be difficult to light and smoke. However, I know several of you have expressed deep affection for Moretti pipes on here, so I bought my first Moretti (and first horn) last night on flea bay. Will see how this goes. Here's a shot - it is a magnum so is quite a large pipe.

I can appreciate Kyle's reasoning on this. I would have to conccur especially since I'm capable of dumping hot as from a POT while smoking  'Fraid I'd never get a bowl lit or completely smoked from a bowl which cants so far forward! They're not for me

I certainly understand the reasoning too. This will be an experiment for me. I figure worse case I have a very nice paper weight for my desk!

And there's probably a reason why this Moretti was an UNSMOKED estate.

Funny, I just went on to the Moretti website and his magnum smooth horns seem to start around $1000. Makes me wonder what the guy selling this one paid for it originally. I bet he took a bath.

yeah mine won't be quite that big, but will be stunning and worth 2 or 3 grand easy

bwahahahahahhahaha

Sounds good. No stain. Just a tortiseshell bit that's a wee bit wider than usual and a nice button.

Horns are attractive pipes to me even though I don't own one but, I've always thought they'd be prone to burn out at the back side of the bowl because of the rising heat and the way it is canted at an angle. Haven't a clue if I'm even close to being right but, it's kept me from buying one. Hope you haven't any problems with yours. Lets us know how it smokes.

If I have a problem with this horn I'm blaming Dutch. He's the guy that extolls the virtues of Moretti pipes all the time.
