In the house I wear house shoes in the wintertime.

In otherwise, socks.

Shoes are hard on carpets.

Here in SA, no-one takes their shoes off in someone else's house. It would be viewed as insulting to be asked to do so. Doormats are for cleaning off your shoes.
You said it Mudd!!!!
My brother makes me take off my shoes when I go into his house in London....... he claims the streets are dirty?????

We live in Africa ......... there is nothing more irritating.
And so by the way, if you take your shoes off in someone's house here in RSA you are probably shagging another brothers wife!!!

Agreed. I don't think that anyone coming into my house would even consider walking around barefoot, unless of course they like getting stabbed by sharp & pointy toys / pieces of toys :p

I have been asked to remove my shoes in other peoples homes and have done so.

Now here is a question, What does the host do when someone's feet are a total disaster? :affraid: Do you tell them to put their shoes BACK ON????

Just a bit of info from a guy who cleans for a living - your feet have oils on them just like your hands do (i.e. the residue law enforcement takes your fingerprints off of things with). Walking around your home barefooted leaves this oily residue on your carpet which in turn makes the carpet catch and hold dirt much easier. It's best to keep a pair of (clean) socks on when around the home.

Just throwing that out there for any who do not have dirt or wood flooring in the home and enjoy new looking carpets.

Yep, grew up in Canada so all my socks have holes worn in them. Have moved around quite a bit and have met very few people where taking off your shoes is not customary, I just do it automatically.

Learned how to use a broom and dust pan at early age by not taking off shoes. So automatically do it now. Don't require guests to but it is nice if they do.

So if you're moving into your new house and have 10 men helping you, then every time they come in and go out they have to put their shoes back on and off all day long?...while also carrying furniture.

Or for people who live in winter climates, you put your lace up boots on and go out to the car, and then have to come back in as you forgot your keys that you left in the bedroom, so you have to unlace your shoes, remove them, then re-install them as you leave again?????/

I don't think so.

My husband's in the airforce, and he takes off his military boots every time he comes through the door. Even if it's only because he forgot something. But the no shoes thing is his rule. I just follow it. =) Granted, I always take off mine wherever I go...so...

lol.
