Enjoyed a tasty lunch, and have about a third of a bowl left of 2021 Watch City Simply Orange Virginia in a black sandblast medium bend 2021 Peterson POTY 4AB No. 182/500 military mount with a silver cap and a tapered black vulcanite AB stem. Drinking the last of this bag of Lavazza Classico coffee, neat. Time to clean a few pipes.

JIm,

The walls are thin near the top of the bowl and thicken as they drop down to the base of the bowl, hence my calling it a brandy. It is brand new and right out of the bag/box. I think the cake issue is the determining factor here. I'll see if I can buid up cake over the next few weeks, if I can find some Vauen filters. Thanks for your input.
You're very welcome. Cake will certainly help, but check the internals of the shank to see if the draft hole is small, and if the interior is narrow. Proper drilling is very important to a cooler smoke. If the outer bowl has a bunch of wax, that would trap the heat and give you a hotter bowl and smoke. I certainly would sip the smoke until you get to where the walls are thicker, too.

Smoking a Pete Watson with some MB 7 seas regular blend that the mailman just delivered. I really missed this stuff! I won a Jeantet Versailles on E-bay earlier today. I only have 1 French -made pipe, which smokes great, so I am hoping I get lucky again.

OJK Red Label in an I. Baglin carved bent apple with horse figure, of course, on the front. Yorkshire Red tea on the side. Still a nippy 48 on the patio with some breeze making it feel colder. Contractor finally finished the master bath. Looking forward to trying out the new soaker tub.

Hmmmm interesting question Carl. I have 3 Vauens, and only one smokes hot. More importantly, its the only one without cake, and it does have rather thin walls. But its still fairly new. But it's an interesting question regardless.
Jiminks over to you (puts hands on chin and looks quizzical) 🤔
Never owned a Vauen pipe. Are the walls thin? Is the draft hole narrow? I never use filter and I don't believe they make smokes cooler.

Thanks for the info and tips, guys.

I bought an estate Vauen Dr. Perl bent with p-lip. It has thinner walls near the top, but not unusually thin. It had some decent cake, but it does seem to get hot at the bottom depending on how fast I smoke and what tobacco. It has given me some really good smokes of GLP Triple Play. I haven't figured it out yet. I did get their 9mm charcoal filters, but don't use them much. I don't dislike them. Here is what Vauen says. Good luck with that pipe. I'd buy another one...

Just passing the half way point on this bowl of unreleased Sutliff VaPer in a mid-2000 decade Tom Eltang straight black sand blasted canted AJ Dublin with a cream and brown horn ferrule, and a tapered black acrylic stem. Ice water and bergs is my drink.

Relaxing after a wonderful salad, chicken legs and snow peas dinner with strawberries for dessert. I smoked a bowl of Wilke Wall Street in a 2013 straight black sandblasted Peterson Sherlock Holmes Series Baker Street with a sterling silver band and a tapered black vulcanite fish tail stem. Community Coffee, neat, is my drink.

Today in honour of my Grandfather. I'm going to plug his William Henry Newman with silver cap and amber stem. Hallmarked 1892. I remember him chuffing away on this particular pipe. (It was one of his favourites), and amusing me by blowing smoke rings when I was a kid. And so without further ado. I'm going to fill its bowl, with Rangers delicious Hobbit Weed. And remember my grandad, before returning the pipe to the treasured pipe rack.
Have a great day my friends.

Cool and rainy here which ruins my deck demo plans. Samuel Gawith St. James Flake in a Viking bent with a tall briar bowl. Let this dry while drinking a pot of home roast, then cubed it up a bit and packed loosely. Watching a guy called Charlie Tango on YT repair an old optimus 8r stove. Later the UT vs Georgia football game, so Go Vols!

CS Figgy Pudding with my 3rd cup of cowboy coffee. Lots of birdies in the feeders, especially doves. Pic of the boys, Cochise and Teddy, in the arena yesterday. Thought they would enjoy running around but they only wanted to eat the leaves falling off the trees now, lol.
