I saw the lower end pipes and they are very inexpensive, like 40 to 60 bucks on ebay. Seems the upper end pipes get into the $200+ up to over $300 range which puts them into Don Carlos/Ser Jacopo bracket. Just wondered how they compare to those.

The one I was looking at was an upper end pipe. Was asking $125 but shipping was $45. Throw in the ebay sales tax and your pushing $200. Emailed the guy and said I would buy it but did not understand the high shipping charge. He wrote back and said he had priced it to low and took it off ebay? So much for that.

If it's the premier line I'd say so. I have three of their upper-tier pipes and would put them in my A+ category along with my best two meers, and two vintage Comoys. I've seen some less expensive Design Berlins on eBay, and the Junior line on Watch City website, but I have a feeling those are like Savinell's Rossi line - good value but quality of briar and attention to finish not as good. I may be wrong, but I've been hesitant to try the lower end stuff; upper-tier products like my Royal Star, Sterling, and Siegfried I know to be top performers. Can't offer any comparison against Vauen, but I suspect German engineering is a matter of pride with both.

Approximately how much should I expect to pay for the upper tier pipes?

Figgy Pudding in my new to me estate Peterson billiard army mount. Liking the pipe, smoking cool and sweet, but not crazy about the replacement bit they put in. A bit narrow for clenching. Any suggestions/advice on where I might send it for a new bit? Got a good deal on the pipe so don't mind a few bucks to get a different stem.

Right now: Wilke 400 in a design Berlin Royal Star. With the wafts of anise seed and pumpernickel it's like rye bread in a pipe. Wilke certainly has some distinctive offerings, all quality stuff!

Sid, I like McB vanilla cream but haven't tried the flake. Is it much different than the loose cut? How goes the revolution?

I have some ''hard time'' with flakes (lightening them especially with butane lighters) and the taste is a little bit ''stronger'' but not something very significant.
The bureaucrats here play games with us, they said the Cafe will open at 7/1 later said at 14/1 now on the end of the month or maybe at February etc. Thanks to God the weather is fine and at Sundays we manage to sneaky enter to some places and enjoy our pipe-coffee.

I have that exact pipe which I acquired with a fishtail bit. I recently sent it to Tim West to have a p-lip made for it; nice job at a reasonable price. You might try Tim, or if you're interested in a fishtail I might consider selling mine .

Sounds a bit like California here. Thank God I don't live there anymore. Glad you can find places to go but I would be upset if I had to sneak around to smoke or have coffee.

Never had a P lip so don't know if I would like it but I am fine with the fishtails on the Petes I do have. I put a softee thing on it for now, better but not great. What would you want for your fishtail? Do all Petes of the same style have the same bit, i.e. would the one from your pipe fit my stem? Thanks for the info and the offer.

CH in my new Don Carlos. Think I'm gonna love this pipe. I've been trying to acquire some larger pipes for burley and virginia blends and I really scored on this one. The bowl is huge almost the size of my Butz magnum. It's not a clincher but really not heavy for the size of the pipe. Smoking really cool.

Wanted to have a bowl of Cowboy Coffee with my coffee but it's been almost an hour and a half and still smoking the Don Carlos. Maybe next time just 2/3rds of a bowl, lol.
