On the other hand, 12 of us could make a group purchase and really light up the day of the next bombing target.
I doubt we'll keep the product line going for years with that method, but it'd be a hilarious gag gift, if spread out properly. With extra gag. :D

* Product sales model--there aren't enough 12 year olds with allowances large enough or the laws to support their smoking to afford such a set. True, they'd make a good party-favor kit, but clowns handing out pipes to kids will arouse a strong creep-factor.

* Product sales model II--there aren't enough hipsters (12 year old mentality, of legal smoking age) to all buy kits like that after the first one is sold and it becomes somehow "cool." Once irony is lost to obscurity, and obscurity is lost to familiarity, it's all over very quickly.
:lol!: Hey you have something against hipsters??!!!

I predict we will soon have a wild influx of hipsters exchanging notes on how to "customize" these things, then they dissappear in a few months and we will be left wading through pages and pages of ebay entries selling these fuglies until enough time has passed and they're retro again, and next generation of hipsters will be here exchanging notes on how they are looking for a set of these customized by such-and-such underground comic strip artist.

Of course on both rounds, someone will stray, get a decent stannie or even a cob, and end up part of the OFPSG.

This

Would I buy it? Heck no. If in a store with them would I play with them? Definitely!

I'm more traditional in my pipes but they look fun to play with.

Looks like something aimed at the European market. Particularly the German market. You ought to see some of the colors and fabrics for car interiors offered in the German market, they sure would not sell over here! I don't think 'em any more "weird" than those GREEN pipes Peterson sells  Coming from Stanwell, they are probably well made, decent briar and though I would not buy a set like that, some will and as has been said "... different strokes, for different folks" No worse than some of the "Artison" pipes I've seen

I see it as just an attempt by CI to cash in on what they perceive to be a niche market, much like Drew Estates Acid Cigars.

All I can say is good luck to them.

Cheers,

Workers get really, really bored turning out the same old, um, stuff every steenkin day. Buyers get really, really bored with the same old, um, stuff. So they all turn to some novelty and repeat ad infinitum.

Anyone who notices the old stuff was better than the new stuff is deemed odd.

That's the history of consumer goods markets.

Search on "entropy."

Not wild about the colors, but it looks like a take off on a dozen Kirsten stems and a dozen various bowls? I'm curious how the stem part breaks down for cleaning.

Natch

In a world of disappearing pipe smoking, I think it is an interesting try. Maybe it will attract new blood to the hobby. I do appreciate a company that evolves their concepts and breaks new ground. I don't know if this particular product will succeed, but I hope that they'll continue experimenting.

Hell yeah, bring it on! What's to be afraid of? Pipes that make my country the home of the brave.

You only get one go-around, why not make it colorful in 144 ways.

They say "with 12 bowls and stems, the possibilities are endless". Since when is 144 "endless"?
Stop being rational, jeesh. Stupid math!

This is brilliant. I could take the set on vacation, and when the kids get bored, I just pull out the stems and voila:
