My question was about replacing the friggin' stem, in the event of the pipe needing it. What I would like to see, maybe, is the pipe coming with an extra bit for workhorse use. I'm thinking of acquiring one of Tinsky's bulldogs--I love the damn things--but I don't want that extension/ferrule/gizmo thing on the stem. From what I've read, he can easily accommodate me. Each to his own, and all that.
If replacement is your concern, wouldn't you be better off with some sort of funky, hand-carved plateau? Then there's no reason to even attempt to match the stem with the briar. Just buy something funky and shove it in. All "regular" stems need some sort of machining done to match a "normal" pipe.

Stems that have fancy inlays and whatnot are pretty well irreplaceable. If you break it, then you'd have to fit a plain stem. Unless of course, you could ship it back to the manufacturer for a replacement in the similar style. For most pipes, that is a tall order. The Ser Jac in my bio at left has one of those inlaid stems. I'm careful with it. Like Sasquatch says, I don't pound stakes while smoking this pipe.

Then again, I don't pound stakes anytime at all... Although I think I pounded a steak once.

...as for that ugly pipe stem up there, I think that blue and red mess is called "clown puke." Awful.
:clown: :lol!: :clown:
That stem would be perfect for his upside down poo pile pipe!

:lol!:

Thanks. I bought that pipe.

j/k

One word: EXPENSIVE! When they get broken you usually can't replace 'em and if so, it costs almost if not as much as the original pipe to replace 'em. They have kept me from buying otherwise, probably excelent pipes to smoke :p

And what's with fancy, beautiful women??? Dressing all sexy... Wearing jewelry and makeup...

Give me a marginally and functionally okay-looking gal in a knee length grey skirt with a baggy,long-sleeve turtleneck any day of the week
:lol!:

Just like a woman with too much makeup or a ridiculous outfit can turn me off, so can a overly fancy pipe.

But a classy, well put together woman... Or a pipe stem with just the right amount of fancy... Mmmmmm 8)
:lol!: :lol!: your killing me

Like you guys said...its all preference but I must say I have a thing for fancy acrylic and Cumberland stems. :|
