When your tobacco's too wet...

what do you do and how do you do it? Do you dry the whole tin at once, or by the pipeful, or...? I opened a new tin of the limited edition Squadron Leader with Perique today, and found the stuff way too wet to smoke. I usually have trouble keeping my tobacco from drying out; this is new territory for me. Suggestions?

open the tin. keep checking. when it gets to the desired humidity, move the tobacco to a glass jar with a good-sealing lid (Mason jar, Ball jar, etc). If you go through tobacco quickly, ie a tin in a week, it isn't necessary. If you're bouncing from one tobacco to another, prolonging the life of that particular tin, it's a far better option than re-humidifying the tobacco over and over again. Personally, I never leave tobacco in the tin for maybe longer than 24 hours after popping it. It's not a battle I enjoy, so I avoid it.

PITA. If you deal with it bowl-to-bowl, you will find that the tobacco will be perfect just as you reach the last few shreds in the tin. Tastes and burns great then.  :sunny:

I have never understood the 15-minute drying time fandango. In my experience, it takes more like 24 hours or more to dry this crap to where it will ignite; ergo, I do the whole tin at once, spread it out overnight, and try to reduce the moisture level to something manageable. Then I plunk it into a decent container, not the original tin. Adjustments may be necessary, but that's my general procedure.

I'll dry it bowl by bowl keeping it in it's own tin until it's not needing the dry time, then jar the balance. It depends on the blend and relative humidity how long that takes.

One member here rigged up a totally awesome “drying tray” that was made (as I recall) from a tin top with one end cut and folded to fit in the outlet where his laptop or desktop computer fan blew hot air. It had a screen on the top so the weed wouldn’t blow away. I understand it did an excellent job.

Thanks Gents. I'll probably go the bowl-to-bowl route as I'm too lazy to fill a pouch every time I leave the house, and typically just stick the tin in my pocket. In fact, I left it open on the desk overnight and enough seems about right to give it a go today.
