At the risk of being a jerk with this :
There is a reason why any Castello will sell for much more than any Dr. Grabow.
Many people like Dr. Grabows. Which makes them, in their estimation, "good" pipes. And, by that line of thinking, they are. More power to them !
Back when I was keeping company with a lady who led me astray, I drank a lot of (still remember the name) Rene Junot with her -- a French low-budget vin ordinaire. I liked it. Which made it -- to me -- "good" wine. But, as French wines go, it wasn't. it was better than plonk, but not by an overly wide margin.
Same deal with tobacco. Not that she probably isn't a fine lady in many respects (maybe in all), but I doubt that Carole will ever be honored by the Pipe Club of London for her prowess as a blender of exquisite weedages.
The great ones are not celebrated for no reason. You either "get" their stuff, or you don't. But if you don't, the world moves on around you.
