Fine with me buddy. Just that you should have mentioned any rule like that at the beginning, so I wouldn't waste my time. I guess you don't want an early jackpot on that one.

Uh oh. I detect the scent of someone who takes my posts seriously.

You haven't been around here long, have you?

Unfortunately for the winner, I don't pour on sundays. Union contract :)

Look again. It's j and Big Jim who are on the hook. I was just the admin guy who posted the pics.

He can't be right. Number 3 is me when I was younger. Before my chest fell down into my drawers.

LL,

There's a lesson in this.... there are some damn smart people out there.... I identified 3 of them on 'first' look and and if i can do that, hell there are many more who are keener than me...

I think the Net in general has made trivia contests and their cousins obsolete. Interesting to contemplate, since there must be other areas similarly affected. Texting & etc. has made written language a complete hash for today's youth, for example, but instantaneous Wiki-style access to every subject imaginable has changed the very concept of knowledge (why know it when you can look it up?).

Societal change on that fundamental a level hasn't been seen in a long time.

I think it's a beautiful thing! Trivial knowledge is now rendered useless, true understanding of a subject (be it a craft or technical skill) will become a commodity of substance again. I still think it will be a few years but it's coming.

That's too true, but how can one query photos on wiki or Google, as opposed to text queries? Heck, maybe there's a way to do it, but just for the record, I got those name to photo matches because I happened to identify them on my own. And, since I'm 62 years old and no youthful mind warped by the internet, I would have caught those twenty years ago, except perhaps for Clooney, who wasn't well known then.

And Slow Puffs, thank you: at least I got one frank, simple acknowledgement out of this mess. And that's all that was called for here. No one's claiming that this is rocket science, but a challenge was posted and all I did was to answer it - I think correctly. End of story.

BS --

Your continued (and apparently serious) indignation is curious. Mess? You saw the "prizes," yes? That's what's called a "hint." That any sort of "contest" was posted on the BoB board was another hint it wasn't legit... this is the most irreverent bunch of cut-ups on the Net. Finally, my name was on it. I'm the biggest poster of goofy **** on BoB.

I thought Justpipes was the most literal-minded, linear thinking person on the Internet (maybe in the history of the world)... Are you challenging him for the title, or something?

P.S. -- regarding trivia being common knowledge in the Internet age, while looking up pics on the Net isn't possible in the direct sense, cross checking them is; I was talking about simply exposure. It's hard to do much surfing without running into such things.

No, I'm not literal minded, I just don't like being dicked around. I would suspect that I'm not alone in this. But I must say that I do accept your above self-valuation at face value. Naive person that I am, I concluded from your original post that you actually expected someone to identify the photos. I hope you won't be disappointed next time, when no one bites.

Dicked around? That would require worth, meaning, consequences, and etc.

I think you have this place confused with something else.

I repeat: BoB is the Internet equivalent of a backyard BBQ, where (pretty much) everybody knows each other, a light tone is the order of the day, and "real" subjects---when they come up---are labeled as such, not the other way around.

Chill, dude. 8)

And, most of us are **** disturbers by nature. But, we'll be the first to slap ya on the back and hand you our last beer :)

When PB offers a Chonowitsch or Nordh for answering the "Who wrote that song" contest correctly, he's dead serious though, so definitely answer those as quickly as possible. The one down side is that his shipping sucks as I'm still waiting on that Ramses he shipped via lame sloth on a slow boat from China back in 2007 :|
