...and how does he/she/it manage to post here? Just curious.

I think when people are banned - or maybe when they delete accounts, the things they posted as members show as "guest."
yup, that's it.

Forum participation, as sterile as it is, digitally nondescript, demands that the participants at least have IDs. I wish "guests" were invited to leave. JMHO.

they already left alfredo, those posts are old posts and then name changes to guest after they get the boot

Most of the guests have been rage quits or loss of interest from cumulative annoyance quits. One such was

Where George signed off & another guy (Jimmy) who subsequently just stopped showing up (except one New Year's eve when he'd had a few) chimed in.

The other kind are like Ian's getting terminally tired of another guy ripping on him over politics.

Stuff like that happens. Because people are people.

I can only think of two guys who have been outright flushed. One, early on, had an asswhole quotient that was just off the chart and another one (who I wish we still had -- he was interesting) hit a point where he felt like he had something vital to say & got hit with the same Sunday School Superintendent Syndrome crap I've frequently encountered and over-reacted, which gave a SSS who was riding his balls around that day the excuse he was looking for.

But on the whole, and to it's credit, BoB's an assemblage of individuals -- as it should be -- and not a club with rules, mandatory attitudes and an official game face.

:face:

You're lucky you only remember two. I can list over a dozen who've been flushed and are gladly no longer here. Funny though. It's usually some version of the same story, perceived rights of ownership simply for showing up.

Oh, and there are two ways to get your username changed to Guest. You can opt out like LL did or you can be shown the door. There have been a couple of opt outs, actually. Most people who don't want to be here anymore simply stop coming in and don't bother with the whole name removal thing. It doesn't really do much anyhow as their posts don't go away unless they go in and edit them one at a time. That has happened too, though. A lot of silly work.

Ironic that the forum software names a banned member, someone who caused us much grief and work, a guest. If only I could modify the names of banned members myself

I think what it amounts to is there is to much reading between the lines and interpitation on subjects that can be totaly misunderstood with forums or texting for that matter. Causing people to worry to much about what they think someone else thinks bla bla bla and before you know it **** hits the fan and feelings are hurt and they no longer want to participate in something that they forgot was just for fun. To bad, seem to have lost alot of great people lately that i used to enjoy reading there views and insights on. Speaking of, does anyone know what has happened to George K or Dutch. just wondering if they are alright?

I guess everyone who has left voluntarily has their reasons.

I wouldn't understand why people would want to change their names or delete their posts, as if their contributions were worldly enough they think it'd be punishing the community they were apart of to remove them--or, if they found their content embarrassing why did they post it in the first place?

When one conducts themselves as graciously as they can, or at least in an unapologetic manner (meaning, it's real), even if they do decide to leave, there's not a problem with aftermath. The book just kind of closes and a new one opens elsewhere.

I can think of four people who were asked to leave just this year. The rage-quitters only stick out in my mind if they strap hyperbole and accusation to their chests like bombs, freak out, and never come back. There were a few guys that I thought were downright solid, wonderful, contributing members and one day, they went through, edited all of their posts with asterisks or dots... and disappeared. Like most people-gatherings, a few of us have big hearts and troubled minds...and can't always get over the latter. It saddens me to know one of our own is struggling out there without us, but we can't help, even if it's just being there for 'em, unless they let us.

As for the arsehats, I get a good laugh and a  over 'em. Those are the REAL nutjobbers out there, the ones with ego problems, pride issues, aggressive insecurities or playground mindsets.

I can deal with anyone. I say what I mean and mean what I say. I don't ignore anyone with the features of the forum (chickensh*t I'm not), I'll step up when I need to and shut up when appropriate. I'll apologize when it's warranted, and might bomb the sh*t out of you when you've become a good friend. BoB's a pretty simple place, by gum. :D

Not sure why some can't handle it...(except for choice, I get that...one day I may fade off...who knows...)...

I faded off. Not because of anything to do with the forum; too busy at work and got too lazy at home. But be forewarned. In twenty-nine work days (Nov 22) I'll be retiring and then you guys will get sick of me. Bwaa haaa haaa!

Faded off??? I thought you'd been abducted by a UFO. Last I knew you were doing a second honeymoon or something around spring. Musta been a good one.

I'd like to take credit for runnin' his vile ass off,
but he got banned after he said that Tony Snow
didn't die slowly and painfully enough.

I haven't been around long enough to have seen too many of these, but the most memorable of late was the Pipe & Revolver Pic thread that turned into a shoot-out at the O.K. Corral.

I post pretty irregularly and I guess I miss all the action.
Kyle, stick around dammit.
