Why doesn't the pot shape get much love?

With just a slight drop every now and again I took a chance to head out with the Dunhill DRR C-EE Grade pot shape from 1948 the last year the DRR designation was used as it was changed to DR in 1949 with a letter designation after it from A being the lowest to F being the highest, sure wish I could decipher the C-EE designation used on this pipe.

I don't care how many times I take this pipe out for a smoke I just get lost in the beautiful angel hair grain. Keeping it smokey with the last of the tin of Dunhill Deluxe Navy Rolls.

I'm not sure if it's the American association of "bigger = better" or what, but you're right, pots proper are under-appreciated. I was recently commissioned to build a GBD 9437 style pot, and to me that's a very beautiful pipe, I jumped at the chance.

Knowing your workmanship, and quality of execution, owning 2 of your pipes, I'm sure it's a corker (that's a very good thing here in Maine). I'm glad, as I'm sure its owner is, you took the commission.

It may take a bit of experience with pots, tobacco and cuts to fully appreciate the Pot. As you know, a Pot isn't just a billiard with a shallower, wider bowl, not from the packing and smoking POV, anyway.

That sure is a beauty of a pot style pipe/bowl. I own many different pot style pipes from various makers and love them all....LHS, Weber, Kaywoodie and especially my T. Cristiano Signature Series, amongst many other oldies like my Pickwick Arms and LaStrada. I find the size of the chamber perfect for smoking my Flake or Kake blends.

Nice DH, indeed. I have also noticed pots don't get much play in the market. To me, a proper pot is more than just a shortened billiard: I think they also have wide diameter chambers, at least 3/4". Complex Balkan and English mixtures tend to develop more flavors in them.

Ok, so he's a bit scary. Burnt his bowl too with the blue flame and a recon his baccy could do with a bit of rehydration???

Yep, I love his clothing, driving gloves, big-ass torch, hat and scarf are perfect, blowing out his nose like a raging bull, coughing, room has the perfect olive colored walls, superb set for this topic.

 But the big-ass pot pipe is the star of this video.

I have but one pot and it is fairly recent: a La Croix that smokes great.

Ya, the crunchy sound was hard to miss. Must've been bone dry. And he power-herfed that whole bowl. Good gravy!!

I also noted him using his gloved fingers to tamp. What with the temp of all that dry 'baccy it would've burned his fingerprints right off otherwise.

And that blowtorch he used to light it clearly was scorching the walls and very probably some of the rim as well. Yet with all that surface area it was probably necessary to get it alight. Still.........

No Schmidt, eh? And it was also kinda creepy how he caressed that bowl several times like it was a phallic symbol or something!!

That's the first time I've seen a pipe that large actually being used. And no, I wouldn't want to try smoking one like it! Waaaaay too big!

Some years ago, Kaiser (remember him?) had a custom full bent giant commissioned and he posted some pics. Think Sas might've made it iirc. It was easily of those same dimensions, only in a full bent. And it also could probably hold 1-2 oz of pipe weed.
