Well folks I am posting  a bit heart broken . I have had a pipe I got 20years ago it is a  briarlee quarter bent rodesion I think and as a noob I bought a bunch of  drug store stuff ,captain black ,brokrim riff and mixture 79 well the mixture 79 smelled wonderful. But tasted  like I licked grand ma before church (perfume and soap).
OK 20 years later it is still goasted so I only have a passing like of the pipe with out the gost it is a great smoker . OK so I got me the pipe net reamers and reframed it from the 17mm bowl to19mm as I have done the salt and school more times than I can count never got it . so first smoke today àfter reaming it and it still tast like mixture 79 so I have no clue how to get rid of this gost

You licked grandma. That never goes away. No amount of drinking......

Yep, the only way you would know your tobacco tasted like you licked grandma, is if at some point you licked grandma.

I would quickly buy a new cob, refrain from looking in the mirror, and try to pretend that it never happened.

Salt and alcohol treatment may help. Use the search function here.

There again if it's an inexpensive pipe you might do well to cut you losses and keep it on the rack for nostalgia.

Cheers,

RR

I would suggest a retort. If you don't know what that is then your probably better off not doing it.
If you know what it is and have never done it, the same goes. Boiling alcohol is a serious thing. ;)

Walker Briar Works ozone treatment works, doesn't it? I'm asking, not telling. And speaking of telling, your apparent lapse of judgment with your, or someone's, grandma is perfectly safe with this bunch.

I had some luck getting rid of the ghost of Capt. Black once upon a time by reaming/sanding the bowl to bare wood, using a retort kit followed by the salt treatment and followed that by smoking about a pound of CH in the pipe. I ruined this pipe during my dark period where I consumed mass quantities of alcohol every evening and no longer cared what I put in my pipe for about a year. Dark days indeed. The upside is I never licked my grandma, not even once.

I have a Castello that was badly ghosted that I sent to Walker for full restoration plus Ozone treatment. The ghost is gone, money well spent, especially considering the fact that my friend found the pipe at an antique fair for $5 bucks. ;)
