I was filling up my lighter and thought what I would use if it was not available in emergency's. I knew gas/petrol and a few of these but cologne and a few others were new to me.
Don't post the obvious comments about how the smell, taste ect will affect lighter or tobacco please! I just thought it was interesting for emergency's.

At work, we keep stored many bottles of anhydrous alcohol which is used to remove tailors pencil marks from cordura.
Thanks to that video, thats what I'm filling my pipe lighter insert up with now.

I can confirm that 99% alcohol works wonderfully in a zippo. Better even than rhonsonol or zippo branded fuel.
It burns very well, does not impart a taste to the pipe that I can detect, and(to me) is free as the air. Alcohol just does better.
Thanks for the thread, helped me out.

All of those alternatives may work in a pinch or emergency, but I’ll stick with the old tried and true zippo fluid. I rather enjoy the smell of the zippo and fluid.

Good stuff mate, I just ordered a litre of 100% way cheaper than the branded zippo fluid after your recommendation. Also I realised why the pipes I cleaned had a residual taste/smell I was using 65% isipol because at the time I couldn't get 99 or 100% anywhere over here. The other 35% ingredient was to deter hobos from drinking it probably and ghosted my pipes (n)

The zippo brand sells here for 125ml is about $7Au and 1000mls of 100% isopropyl alcohol is $13Au. I have a 30ml glass eyedropper that I will try as a zippo refueler. Should work well as long as the rubber top hold up. Ohhh just realized I should be able to use the old zippo fluid bottles :LOL:
