What's that Edward G. Robinsons like? I prefer a smoker's description rather than the marketing description.

I'll give you my review.

The smell from a freshly opened tub or tin is entrancing. The nutty, earthy, woody burley also has a touch of molasses as the lead component. The gold Virginia cavendish provides some grass, tart and tangy citrus and few drops of honey as a secondary player. The brown sugary unsweetened black cavendish is a condiment, and has a tinge of vanilla, too. The smoky, woody, earthy sweet Cyprian Latakia isn’t very detectable being only one percent of the blend, but it’s just enough to add nuance to the flavor. I also observe a little fruity plum as well as a red wine topping. There's also a couple pinches of cinnamon present. The strength and nic-hit are a step past the mild mark, while the taste is almost at the center of mild to medium. I’ve never experienced any bite, though I know a few people have. I puff it a little on the slow side for best effect, and I recommend that pace. Has no harshness or rough edges. Burns cool, clean and even at a reasonable rate with avery consistent flavor from top to bottom. Leaves just a little dampness in the bowl. Requires few relights. Has a pleasant, short lived after taste, and room note. An all day mildly aromatic smoke.

This product has outlived Robinson (who supervised its creation) by many years, and has never been out of production. For those who remember him, it’s a trip down memory lane. For those who don’t know much about what a great actor Robinson was, it’s a chance to acquaint one’s self with a venerable blend and perhaps the man himself to some degree.

9-1-2013 Edit: The 1950s EGR was produced by the Greenfield & Winther company, who originated the blend. It was interesting to discover the taste of the new blend is close to the old, except the newer was slightly sweeter, and the spice note from the cinnamon was just a little more obvious in the older version. The Greenfield & Winther production was a little stronger as well.
 
Now smoking Arango Balkan Supreme in an '80s Peterson's smooth 312 with vulcanite p-lip stem.

Decompressing with EGR in my Anton & Co.. @MLBbreton Short review: tub aroma reminds me of port, cut is coarse with a rich feel, smokes mellow with little nuisance, retains flavour throughout - just a little English on it. To me it has a hint of raisin bread to it. Be advised, this is a fresh tub and I only started smoking EGR myself in the last month.

Relaxing after a wonderful salad, a rack of baby back ribs, baked potato, and pork and beans dinner with a banana split for dessert. I'm passing the half way mark of this bowl of year 2013 Capstan Blue Flake in a straight 1924 Dunhill’s “Shell Briar” patent pot 7 with a tapered black vulcanite stem. Community Coffee, neat, is my drink. Cleaned a few pipes, and am watching the Guardians-Yankees game.

A few minutes ago, Tomato the Brave wanted inside from the cold, and quickly went to his currently favorite place to snooze.

Because of the wonderful economy comrades Byden and Harries has given us, I'm smoking a 50-50 mix of Blend DD and Crooner as an inaugural smoke in this li'l Boswell bent pot I got yesterday in my bi-monthly mail call. Sweet little pipe, I don't believe I've ever seen a Bos this small.

I agree. I don't come here for anybody's political opinion. The rest of the internet is full of that already for those who think they have to tell people how to think.
 
Decompressing after work with EGR in my Rossi Canadian with a Tyskie. Removed annuals today, cutting back perennials tomorrow, pruning line of sight on fairways by increments. Predictions of snow by the 25th ... I am skeptical but it will not be long.
AGGGGH Snow I would rather stick my head in a freezer, Hope all your plants will be ok mate. This is a thing over here even have a mate with one on a tree :D

Wow, thank you so much for the review and background. I am for sure getting some now.
I purchased what I hope is a birth year pipe and and I want to find the perfect blend to dedicate to it.
I think it will be easier to find it out "there"
with all the knowledge in here.

I lied to you Jim and guys on saying I don't own a poker shape style :rolleyes: I have had this one for over 10 years and never smoked it or gave it another loving glance on the rack. But after Misses post on here her beautiful pipe identification and saw what I think is the same wood as this one I lite him up.The bit goes directly into bowl, the chewing gum might be sap :unsure: can barley make indentation with my finger nail. If you guys know what is a rocket stove.....well this bugger smokes like one :LOL: Funny it will go into my "going over to mates place around the fire"pipe pouch as I enjoyed it more than my vest pipes(y)

Smoking it with some carter hall. It looks horrible but will tidy it up and put some much needed obsidian oil on etc

Enjoyed a tasty golden delicious apple, and am smoking year 2019 HU Directors Cut in a smooth slight bend dark brown 1940s-1950s Comoy’s Blue Riband 228C prince with a tapered black vulcanite stem. Daisy the Feral Princess came inside to eat, and is by my side. Tomato the Brave ate, and is back in the comforter. Abner the Eager ate, and is hiding from the others to take a snooze. Harry the Hairy ate as well, though we don't let him inside. Sleepy Suzy and Molly Danger are snoozin' on m'lady's lap over their favorite blanket.
