    Horn for smoking?

. While I've always thought that the Horn shape looks attractive on a good piece of briar, the shape has never struck me as one that would be easy to smoke. Look at this Ebay offering for example. Its gorgeous, but at 72 grams it certainly is not a clencher, and, to my eyes it doesn't look...

Retirement - Where do you want to live and why?

. For me it is in, or near, the upper Mississippi River valley between Red Wing, MN and Dubuque, IA - the region they call the "Driftless Area" because the glaciers flowed around it. The topography is what the entire upper midwest looked like before a series of glacial advances buried most of...

Is this kid available for adoption?

I enjoyed that, and my hat comes off to this kid for being that interested in something, especially something that is forward-looking (store of wealth, even if not very space efficient). Steve

    Dublin suggestion?

Warning, shameless self-serving plug because its my pipe, but being that its a bent Dublin, I'd feel irresponsible not saying anything. It probably will go higher than $75 though. http://www.ebay.com/itm/180764161499 Steve

    Any other motorcyclists on here?

. Riding since 1971, every style except motocross and trials. This summer I sold my 2000 Victory until I can get re-situated and resume the pastime. Prior to these four, I had gone through a 1978 Yamaha XS750SE with a "Factory" Vetter fairing and hard bags (Yamaha fitted touring stuff to some...

I had not noticed that, and I apologize, jlong, for raising the false alarm! Steve

    Dublin suggestion?

Kurt Huhn has a bent Dubliln available. Its half again higher cost than you wanted to pay. I have purchased several pipes from his Countryman Line and have been pleased with them. http://www.pipecrafter.com/ Steve

    Peterson's and shellac.....Opinions please

Shellac is gas permeable. I've never noticed anything ill smoking about ones I've owned. One might want to try to remove it if the appearance is unpleasant, but I wouldn't how to do it. Steve

    Authors and Bulldogs

. As mentioned, the Savinelli 320K is a great shape, and they offer it in a lot of finishes, but I've always thought of it as an Author. This photo shows a rare Giubileo D'Oro 320K. Mark Tinsky does a Mean author as well, reminiscent of the Sav 320, and you can find one on his web site...

    have you ever

The shape of the bit influences me more than the stem material, although for me, vulcanite tips the balance in favor of buying. Steve

    Too funny.

Many thanks for all the advice. Don't know if I'll try it yet, but my curiosity keeps tugging on me. For driving schools it would be either a freight company that trains their own drivers, or else the community college down the road from me that offers a 1-month CDL-A course with 3 weeks of...

    Too funny.

I'll trade you coffee money for information. Seriously, I've retired from my previous career. One option I'm considering is getting a class A CDL and giving OTR truck driving a whirl. If I don't like it, my situation is such that I won't have to stay in it. For $4 each: 1. Using the...

    spicy ffod before smoke

Long ago I discovered that buttermilk is a great quencher for hot spices. I love the taste of it too, but unfortunately not many restaurants serve buttermilk. Steve

    Selling most of my collection

I retained both, Sas. I wanted to keep the straight, and would have sold the bent but could not endure the thought of breaking up the pair. Stackle2, congrats on the SMS. The pipe was $119 new, purchased at Jon's pipe shop in Urbana, IL. Steve

    Selling most of my collection

I only smoked it once and didn't finish it because the tobacco was too wet, I think. The draw is open. I ignored it after that because I'm a clencher and I found the bit to be uncomfortable in my teeth. Steve

    Selling most of my collection

Nope. Of his current postings, the 4-panel SMS meer is the first from my collection, and then all but three from the Ruthenberg to the Ferndown dublin are mine. Steve

    Selling most of my collection

. Economic constraints force me to sell most of my remaining pipe collection - that is, I'm selling 57 pipes and . will keep 16 as my smoking stock. The pipes are being sold on Ebay by Great-Estate-Pipes and the postings began several days ago. I chose Great Estate because he takes decent...
