Just tried aged Solani Silver flake.

A fine tobacco, and I like it. Not a favorite for me though, as I find it a bit light bodied and astringent. I prefer something a bit heavier and darker.

I just tried Rattray's Old Gowrie

Long time fan here of the Rattray tobaccos, I like most of them, especially the big three HOTW, Marlin Flake and Old Gowrie.

    I just tried "Dunhill 965"

965 is a cavendish heavy blend. A lot of the darker tobacco you see is cavendish, it is the predominant tobacco.. Not a bad blend at all, but that definitely moves it from English to the Scottish category. Not a traditional English in my opinion.

What size pipe do you prefer

Nowadays a grp 5 is my favorite. Typically, a .75 in dia chamber, and an OAL of about 5.5 in. Lately I like tall bowls, so a 2-2.25 in bowl is good with me. I like longer smokes, the height concentrates the flavor and strength.

New Mac Baren Dark Fired Kentucky

Blend sounds good, but I read where it is flavored, like the old DSK. That pretty much makes it a non starter for me.

    Peretti's Royal Blend a review

I like it , but don't smoke it often. They insist on putting a light topping on everything, which is, of course what they are known for.

    G.L.Pease ' Embarcadero and Cumberland

Two very nice tobaccos. Just be advised, they ran out of the 20 yr old Kentucky for the Cumberland, and are using a new source, which according to G Pease, they have been phasing in for some time. My opinion the new stuff just isn't the same. I noticed the difference and thought it was just me...

    Mild/Moderate latakia blends

Chelsea Morning is a good light blend. Latakia is not a strong tobacco, it is just very aromatic. For Oriental forward, but with some latakia, try the Rattray blends.

GLP Cumberland...Another blend that I must keep in stock

I have smoked Cumberland for several years and really like the stuff. Realized I was running low lately and got some new. It just isn't the same. G. Pease states they ran out of the old Kentucky, and are using another source. I put a pound away to age, and hope it helps it.

    tambo mold?

Mould can be white, green, or red, or any color in between. Sugar crystals will look like crystals, or bubbles under a strong magnifier. Mould will look with like spider webs, with tentacles reaching out from the main body. Without better magification, I would guess mould.
