    Mac Baren Plumcake

Unfortunately, this was the first tobacco I ever smoked, back in the sixties. Put me off pipe smoking for years, burned my mouth to a crisp.

Legacy blend by PipesandCigars.com's new release

Have bought several pipes from Mel over the years, but never smoked any of his tobacco, glad it is going to live on.

would you ever "finance" a pipe purchase?

Price has nothing to do with it. If you want it, you want it. I have never financed a pipe, and don't recommend it. I have, however put one in "layaway" and paid on it. Did that for a few reasons, it wasn't going to cost any extra, I wanted to hold the pipe, and didn't have the cash to pay for...

    Nosewarmers....or not?

I like short chubby pipes, but generally not shorter than 4.75 in. It's strictly a matter of aesthetics. Tobacco burns at several hundred degrees. The inch or two difference is not going to cool the smoke to a degree you can notice.

Do you smoke your best or worst pipe?

I voted both. I don't own anything that is too good to use for the purpose it was intended. If something was too good to use, I wouldn't buy it in the first place.

    Oiling a pipe???

I also just use a dry cloth. Have always thought oils and waxes would just clog the natural breathing of the briar. Have read that skin oil, ie, rubbing on your face is not good because your skin excretions contain salt, which is not good for any wood. Also have read that oils and waxes...

Briar Pipes with a Virgin Finish

My only unstained is streaked darker in areas. I have read this is due to the density of the briar, softer will come thru first.

    The Bite Zone

Over the years, stem thickness has become more important to me. I prefer a thin hand finished stem, just a lot more comfortable to me. Castellos, to me, are among the best smokers made. I have several, but would have a lot more if not for their klutzy stem work. Just always kind of surprising to...

From what you have said, I think the quality of the briar/curing methods are in question.

    Pipe tool recomendation

Don't remember where I got it, sorry. Some online knife site. I agree, a Laguiole is not necessary, but similar to buying any car other than a Yugo. Why buy a Chevy, Ford, BMW, or Mercedes when the Yugo will do?

Nostalgic visit to St. Louis area Pipe Shop

I think since JRs relocated from downtown to a few doors down from Jon's, it just killed his business. Last time I was in Jon's several years ago, I went there to pick up a few 100g tins of Rattrays blends. The Frenchman told me he didn't have them, as they were just too expensive to stock. That...
