    Pipe Tales

I posted this comment earlier in the year, on another site, but I'd like to share it with the BoBs here. "If there is an icon for Codger Burleys, I nominate the late Beecher Gwinn. And, of course, I'll explain the nomination. You know there's a story, there's always a story, absolutely true...

Pipe dream of the day thread

Pre WWI matched set of Dunhills, one billiard and one 1/2 bent, with military stems. I saw them once in a presentation box and decided that those were what I wanted if i could ever have the disposable income. Still waiting, but the pipes are long since gone to auction, hopefully to someone who...

Sorry, but my recording was on CD, 2nd hand. It is seriously good stuff, both were in rare form

Ok, you asked for it!........John Middleton's WALNUT

Like deer to a salt lick. I can only attest that lighting each bowl of Walnut further solidifies my reputation as the "Croatian Casanova".

    What are you listening to

Johnny Hartman and John Coltrane, a very fine recording of the late 50s.

    What are you smoking?

Funny thing about great minds and all. Just filled an Ehrlich billiard (an IrishLefty acquisition) with ERRd and 5bros mix. I guess we're all going to have to die one day, one might die with good tasting smoke! But, the mix is not for the faint-of-heart, especially in the AM.

    PA Observation

I would add that I always preferred the pocket tin to the plastic pouch, and the tub to them all. I would swear that the pocket tin had a slightly different cut and was a little drier smoking, but that might just have been my imagination or my youthfulness. BTW, I highly recommend 4parts PA to...

    new kaywoodie

Especially the 4 digit KW pipes. Great value for the money and sweet smoking.

Which are your Favorite Burley and/or Cavendish Blends

Yes, all these, and OJK, Bookshop, 5Bros, and Uhle's Perfection Plug in the first tier. There must be at least 20 or more in the "I like to smoke them but not everyday" category.

    Estate Pipes *An Edorsement*

I think that LL's comments sum up today's situation rather comprehensively. Having been twice 'burned' badly in the last five or so years, I am wary unless I am well aware of the pipe's 'genealogy'. Of course, I still haunt flea markets and estate sales hoping for the singular gem.

    Tobacco Ghost's in Pipes

PB, I have found that if you ream lightly and then smoke a few bowls of 5Bros, seriously, then the ghosting always seems to be diminished. 5Bros is a neutral though strong burley, and with the string cut will burn quickly and cleanly, usually eliminating previous problem blends. G-H Kendall Ky...

Good to see you back again. Oh, by the way, it's your round to buy :lol!:

    Knowing What You Like

When I started smoking in 1966, there was the normal cycling through OTC aromatics to uber aromatics, then (surprise!) to many of the fine English blends, like State Express and Constantinople, Exmoor Hunt and Bulwark, unquestionably one of the top five tobaccos ever made. I would alternate...

    Pipe Smoker's Revenge!

Think positive! Think less that it was the revenge of the pipesmoker, and more that you gave them a seductive 'nudge' for an early end of the meeting so that they could rush out and buy something to smoke themselves :darklord:

    I'm a father...or...will be...not sure which...

I have two sons, 27 and 25. Both were full time scholars and baseball/football players, and still play. Neither son smoke or ever wanted to smoke, apparently. I never stopped pipe smoking, saw no need to stop, just moderated my smoking in the car and around them in enclosed areas. I never...

    Maine: the latest

I wonder if there is similar legislation to protect children of drivers who are drunk, or abusive parents who think that kids need to be bounced around or psychologically demeaned. Or, how about drivers who are high, and decide to jeopardize their family?
