    Summer splurge

Rande, the Redwood is absolutely worth digging out to try. Dare I say it but it's the closest best substitute I've found so far for my beloved and defunct blackwood flake. Granted it doesn't have quite the strength or twang but this is some of the best chit I've smoked in quite some time. I'll...

    Pipe at the Kiddy Park!

You sir are treading in dangerous waters. I have done the same and had the local drug enforcement officer show up because "some crazy guy is in the park smoking pot!" Now anyone that knows me knows the only "pot" I ever smoked was a BBB Own Make which I gifted to a brother years ago because I...

    My first Peterson

Super looking Pete you got yourself! I've only got one myself and it's a fishtail too. Hope yours smokes as nicely as mine does. Jim

    Summer splurge

The Redwood is quite tasty! I could see it being a much bigger seller if it were offered as a flake. I may have to press some and see how it does. Jim

    New Old Stock Medico

I have a bent bully like that but with a large gold band. Great smoker and rather fetching looking too. Jim

    Never woulda thunk it...

SWR is a good reliable smoke glad you've given it a chance. Jim

    Summer splurge

Dave, the RYO stuff is one of the best investments I've ever made thank you for that. I rolled back into town from a road trip to Texas a couple of days ago and it was snowing like crazy up here. End of May and we're still getting snow.... Gotta love it. Those quick smokes have been a real life...

    Rope Lighter

I've got a rope lighter I made years ago that I use now and then. It's pretty fiddley to use but I find that there are one or two blends I like that really do seem to do better for me when lit with the lower temp of the rope ember. I also have an ancient pair of cupped tongs for picking up an...

Plum Pudding Special Reserve- Taste Nothing!

That's interesting I really don't know what to think about that. There are blends that just don't jive with a person due to body chemistry and such. Perhaps you should stock them away and try them again a few years down the road. Jim

    What are you snuffing?

On my way through very rural Texas last week I picked up a couple of tubs of W. E. Garrett and Sons Scotch Snuff 1.15 oz each for a whopping $16 total. Not bad at all considering what shipping from England would be. Super smokey and a lovely hit of vitamin N. Poor old boy behind the counter was...

    Meerschaum Repair

Tim, it seems to me the issue is the smooth surface of the vulcanite insert. Rough it up with a file or coarse sandpaper that will help. As to "glue" the traditional item used on meers is egg white. It will take some time to dry but should do the trick nicely. Jim

    How was your weather today?

Winter weather advisory for the second day. 4-6 inches of snow when I got up yesterday and blowing and drifting snow this morning. Yay!!!! So much for our spring weather last week lol. Jim

    Good night of tobacco

Sounds like a wonderful blend you've made for yourself. Enjoy it in good health! Jim

    A seat with a view

Quite the view there mate! Always brings joy to my heart to see such beauty and that you get to take the time to sit there and soak that in while you relax with a pipe is just one of the most wonderful things to me. Enjoy my friend you certainly deserve it. Jim

    My first bowl.

Hey, as to how much smoke you should be putting out.......you aren't smoking a hookah my friend it's completely ok to just put out a small wisp of smoke. You'll find that the less smoke you're putting out the cooler the bowl will be and the better flavor you'll get from your tobacco. Granted you...

    My first bowl.

Any of the 3 Nuns blends are going to be superior tobaccos. Perhaps as suggested a cheaper blend would be in order while you learn how to smoke a pipe. It does seem a shame to waste expensive tobacco until you've gotten the hang of smoking. However if you enjoyed the flavor and don't mind paying...

    Peterson Meerschaum

Zeno, meers of quality manufacture have been commanding prices like that for as long as I've been a pipe smoker. There are quite a few cheaper ones but they usually are no where near as nicely carved and could possibly be pressed as well. Decent used ones are always coming up for sale but I'd...

Display Cabinet of Pipes & Stuff

I spy some really great fossils in there and the obsidian knife is beautiful. Those are some super pipes as well. Given your location UV protection is a must. Wondering if you might have considered a paper background to help with thar? I know there have been some amazing smoker themed wrapping...

    Bugler boy tobacco

I've smoked much worse than bugler. No shame in smoking what's available or cheap for that matter. You'll find adding moisture to it will really improve the flavor in your pipe. The only way to really enjoy a shag RYO in a pipe as is is if you have a The Pipe. Made in the 60's out of polymer and...
