Hey, Idlefellow, We hunted more squirrels than rabbits in southeast Alabama where I grew up. I think our landscape is much more bushy and hilly which might account for it. We still have lots of doves in the fall still, but not as many as use to be. Quail are virtually gone now. Habitat they thrive in is about gone. Darn shame as they are far better eating than doves to me. 60 years or so ago, all our deer were about gone and there were no
coyotes. Today we have way too many of both. Season allows 2 doe and one buck per DAY and we still have them everywhere. Not as much farming now so they eat what they can find, but most look hungry. Very sad. Coyotes are considered a pest and can be hunted during daylight only year round and no limit.

As far as you finding another Savage Model 24, go to Gunbroker.com. Huge auction sight in Georgia . I bet you can find one there.

Yes, also Buds Gun Shop online has several for sale. Looks like they are running between $4/500 now. Think I paid under a hundred for mine back in the late 70's, lol. Sure wish I had kept it. Interesting fact that it was introduced as the Stevens model 24 in 1938 and stayed in production till 2010 under Savage. A 72 year run. Impressive.

Yeah; thanks. Aware of most of the places I could find one if I were of a mind - I'm not. I regret passing on that one years ago, but the urge to find another passed a long time ago.

Love 'em. Actually I love .22's in general and have at last count four rifles and four hand guns. I've always wanted a Stevens Favorite - the so-called Boy's Rifle.; I really like those little falling block guns - and I always kept my eyes peeled for one in decent condition that I could afford - many of them have been shot out, or at least shot loose - and it's not something I wanted to put a lot of money in. A few years back I came across a Crackshot at a gun show; not a Favorite, but the same basic design. The lever's a bit loose but I can live with that in an inexpensively-made gun that's probably a hundred years old or better; bluing and wood finish are really good. I asked the price, the owner said "How would you feel about $?" I said, "I'd feel better about $" and now I own it. It's a fun little shooter in .22LR and it shoots pretty much where you point it. Here it is, photographed in a sort of "Boy's rifle" setting with a few other treasures. I may have posted this before, but hey: it's hotter than blue blazes out, and I'm bored...

I have always loved the Steven’s Favorite, and never had the chance to own one myself.
I’m also a big 22 LR fan.

I have my dads old model 62a that i am cleaning up. I remember him showing me how to shoot that thing.

My first 22 rifle as a kid was a 69a. Good old rifles

My father-in-law passed some years ago and his rifle went to Wade, his youngest. Wade also passed a couple years ago, and for some reason the rifle was passed to me. It's a Winchester 1890 in 22WRF. What a cool old gun: octagon barrel, exposed hammer, curved metal butt plate, and that little "corn cob" forend. Shells are a bit hard to find and pricy when you do; there were a couple partial boxes with the gun and I scored a few more later on. Haven't shot it yet; don't know when/if I ever will. Kind of an honor to have it in my gun rack though...

I want to share a recent acquisition. I got myself a new air rifle a few weeks ago, a gamo swarm magnum. I like the idea of a break barrel airgun with more power than a toy. Shooting squirrels on woods walks and harvesting rabbits is going to be a pastime as soon as it averages somewhere in the 50°s and with the price of pellets, its dramatically cheaper to shoot. Still .22 though.
I sewed the sling, 3d printed the forward sling mount, and paracorded the rear attachment. I also 3d printed a new suppressor insert and shaved 4 decibels off of the factory one.
I'm proud of the sling, it turned out really well.

Brilliant bit of kit GM. I have a gamo magnum x10. 10 round mag just break and shoot in .22cal so quiet and as powerful as .22lr IMO.
So much fun and cheap ammo hey. Love my blackbunker foldable survival .22 air rifle also complete with bayente for close up bunny and squirrel kills hahaha
