Just a question on Burley's in general. My question pertains to aging of Burley's. The only burley i have tried is Boswells Premium Burley but i think it is great . I wanted to buy it in some bulk and try and jar some of it. Was wondering if burley in general ages like virginia's? I know my knowlege of baccy is primative but hey you gotta learn somewhere
Burley has almost no sugar, so there is no big payoff to aging, other than the comfort of having a supply of tobacco you like laid in.

I'm not much of a burley guy but it does have it's place and I respect all the burley smokers. If you want a blend with a bit of oomph than burley is almost a necessity. I don't enjoy burley dominant blends for the most part but it's all about the skill of the blender. I've always enjoyed Sugar Barrel , an old time Burley blend. So it depends. I've just recently got some C&D Night Train that has a goodly amount of burley and I am quite frankly really enjoying it. I generally stay away from burley dominant blends but I am not afraid to give one a try. Always have an open mind!

Puffs, Peretti, Uhle, and to a lesser extant GLP, produce fine Burley blends, I just finished a nice bowl of what Ithink is the finest Burley out the Peretti's Somerset flake. No fad here just a shifting of tastes and experiences, and desires, Ken
Pacem en Puffing!
Which uhle's burley do you recommend? I think they have two straight burleys i guess i could get them both.......

Uhle's Perfection Plug Cut Burley, or the Long Cut 00 Burley are great, you can't go wrong with either.

Great thx, i really enjoyed boswell's premium burley and berry cobbler. I will be buying some of that in bulk. Ill try some Uhle's as well. Perreti may have some good burleys as well so ill just have to order some and give it a shot.

I like flake or cube cut burley more than ribbon cut. Many of the OTC burley blends are ribbon cut. Perhaps just being more concentrated in a flake gives them a little more "umph". Solani 656 is one I tried that I really liked. I haven't explored the Burley avenue as much as other genres yet so there's bunches yet to try.

I rembember getting a large paint tin of the David P. Erlich "DPE" a few years ago (many) and while enjoyable, it was just a little too transparent for my tastes at the time. I was a Nightcap/EMP dude at that point so, by comparison it was obviously a little pale. I have a few tins of burley blends here that I've been saving. Two here that I am not familiar with yet are the C&D Burley Flake No. 2 and Wessex Burley Slices. Maybe I'll give 'em a go after reading this thread again.

On a side note, I'm sorry the Erlich shop is gone, I would love to get to know more of his offerings today. I guess Peretti's is now the reigning Boston tobacconist. It's funny, I went to school in Boston but hadn't taken up the pipe yet. Now I kind of wish I had!
