Back in the 70's there was another company which made corn cob pipes besides MM. The name may have been Buescher. I call also remember a brand of cobs called Irvin S. Cobb. A neighbor smoked the cheaper cob with the diamond shank, always straight stem and his tobacco was "5 Brothers". Wonder if MM has considered bringing back the bamboo shank model?
I just spoke to Phil this morning, and the reason they stopped offering bamboo shanks was the quality of the bamboo. He plans to look into finding a reliable source for bug-free bamboo, and if he can, will make them available, at least on a limited-run basis.

My Pony Express MM is my best friend out in the field, as I'm a geologist. Besides being a perfect smoker, he serves as a scale bar in photos of various geological strucures too!

Not bad for a pipe that costs less than $5.00.
