I was recently gifted a largely completed Prince pipe of no makers name by a very good friend on Smokers Forums, despite the chill in the wind I took it upon myself to spend some time in the shed today to get this pipe finished.

Here you can see the condition this charming little pipe was in prior to beginning:

Much filing and sanding did come to pass, my poor little pinkies did not appreciate being out in the cold I can tell you, I should have done a better job of it but it was so darn cold my fingers refused to work properly.

I have found a smidgen of dye in the shed today, tucked up in the corner where my box of tricks fell down several months ago, not the colour I should have preferred but there ya go. I applied 4 lots of dye to the pipe, setting fire to the dye each time to force the dye deeper into the briar and of course to give a darker finish when buffing.

Finally came the tripoli and beeswax with carnauba bit, I like this part the most as you get to see the pipe coming to be truly beautiful as you work, all stages were great fun I must say, even if it was miserably cold out in the shed.

Here's my new Prince, aint he gorgeous. ;)

Looks a million times better. Excellent job. I've always toyed with the idea of buying a bunch of semi finished stummels to complete.

Kirk, that pipe is effing gorgeous. Prince pipes are hard to find these days, and I like them for stronger baccas like Warrior or Jackknife. I may have to trouble you for one...

...one day, when I can offer more than a joke and a prayer.

Have you seen this site: http://www.calabriapipe.com/it/index.php?lang=en

I would order from there in a heartbeat if finances permitted, some good deals on offer there. ;)

If I weren't so blooming skint Kyle I would gladly make a gift of it to you mate, we're flat broke until end of February'ish, that Harvey business has left more than emotional scars mate. Still trying to find a way of getting a pinch more tobacco to see me through, I may have to put up my Northern Briar pipe for a trade yet, things are getting scary tight here. I'll keep it unsmoked until end of February and if you still want it mate it's yours.

How about this, when we're both not flat broke, we can work something out, trade if anything. We've both had our share opening up a tin of sh*t this year with the way life has gone. If you gotta sell it, do so, brother.

This pipe is far from perfect Kyle, I couldn't put it up for trade mate, just wouldn't be right, when I can afford to send it to you mate it'll be on its way, please don't make a song and dance about it, just allow me to gift it to you. I may be a skint arsed plank Kyle but I'd still like you to have it seeing as you have taken a fancy to it, I know you'll appreciate the time and effort I have put into it and that's worth more to me than a pinch of baccy, okay mate. :)

Considering you'll probably make more of a stink if I make my own about it, I guess I have no choice. Seeing as you don't have my address, I'll just take it out on Rob, who is the likely culprit to give it to you. :D Paybacks, as evidenced around here, are a b*tch. It might not be me, either. Funny things happen like that.

That pipe is nicer than anything I'm able to carve, don't sell yourself short. :)

Kyle, hah, it didn't occur to me that I don't have your address, I've asked Rob for it seeing as you're being such a drama Queen :) , the very moment I am able to finance the postage I will send it if off to you. I didn't careve it Kyle, I finished it, the pipe was already carved, just needed the superfluous material removed to reveal the pipe that was waiting underneath. ;)

Great, all I did was expedite the process. :| That's okay, Rob's still under suspicion for being The Shadow anyhow.

You kidding? The finishing and deciding when to stop sanding and when to start dying/polishing is probably the hardest part of carving. It's art, man... the classic artist woe: "When is it done?"

It's a gracious thing to want to send it to me. This is not over.

Kyle,

I am truly sorry to have to do this to you my dear friend, but as my dear Da' used to say to me, there comes a time when a man has just got to do what is right, no matter the cost being it money or feelings, doing right first is always best. Now I know I promised I would be able to send it to you near the end of February, and I am truly sorry to have to say that I wont be able to do that now.

Ha-ha, bet that made your grin slip huh, we made some small adjustments to our shopping for next week mate, I can't send the pipe to you come the end of February because it will already be with you by then!

Lea is going to be posting the pipe off to you come Monday, if the big man in the sky is willing mate, should be with you before Christmas, if not it'll be with you shortly after Christmas. :)

I don't get it!?!
A Happy ending Christmas Story...... I believe the picture is from the Charles Dickens , The Christmas Carol... I just am not sure where the scrooge comes in :study:

I got your Scrooge right here. Bah-eff-you. All of you.

Kirk, I was actually smiling when you said you might not be able to send it: it might have gotten to the point when Z and I move, that I could simply evade it. But no, you had to be all prompt and whatnot.

Rob, I will GLADLY make sure I have Kirk's address on hand. It can't be that hard to pass some tobacco through customs.
