How Many Pipes Do You Own?

I only got into pipes a couple of months ago, and I am on quite a tear. I already have 26. This insanity must stop. I am working in New York this week and went to the De La Concha Dunhill trunk sale on December 4th. If you bought 4 or more Dunhills, you received 25% off. So lets just say I helped the wife buy me 4 Christmas presents. Crazy. Believe it or not, the older gentleman in front of me bought 8 Dunnies. I struck up a conversation with him and he said this will bring him to 100 Dunhills even. 100 Dunhills? My God. Is he trying to have one for every day of the year. Just craziness I tell you.

Hey, if you are still in NYC next week, the NYC Pipe club meets on Tuesday. I'm coming in from MD.

Yeah, I am slowing down already. Have built up a good foundation. Out of those 26, 7 are cobs, so it is perhaps not as bad as it seems.

Actually collecting that many pipes over a 35 year period is pretty conservative in my estimation. But that's only a weird way of looking at it!!!! :lol!:

I own a little more than thirty that I smoke, including about a half-dozen cobs. I probably have another dozen or so that I don't smoke for a multitude of reasons, including my first (basket) pipe that smokes like a dog, a cheap figural meer that I like, but don't want to fuss with (I don't remember it being a remarkable smoker, either), some beat up flea market finds that aren't worth bothering with, and my great-grandfather's meerschaum that has seen better days. I had the tenon fixed on that one, as it was in two pieces when I got it, but he chomped a big hole in the top of the amberoid stem and had the shank banded due to a crack that's still visible.

I don't buy too many, but if I see a real bargain or something I really like, I don't worry about the number in my collection.

I don't have a 'collection' of pipes, I have mostly old nasties and very few of them, it shames me to put a number to them, I have a couple of nicer ones (nice to me that is!), the best pipe I own is my Northern Briars Plateaux, but I've only smoked it the once, I've gone right off bent pipes.

I'm at 29 carefully chosen pipes right now. 30 +/- seems to be about right for me and I'll stick in that vicinity. IE, if one must leave to add another.

Thanks, that is one of my favorite (and wonderful smoker) GBD's. I've learned not to pass up on Seventy-Six edition GBD's, the wood is always magnificent.

23 briar. 12 of them are what I consider my "collection" and 11 that are for the pipe club. Not a bad start for my first year of collecting. Got another Moretti on the way and my name in the queue for 2 different artists.
