Started smoking at age 19. Surprisingly, I started with the pipe. Never got into cigarettes, but did enjoy the occasional Backwoods Cigar though (and still do).

Had freshman orientation in August of 1977 when I was 18. My "buddy" at the same age smoked a pipe and loved it. Couldn't say enough about it. I had tried while I was in high school but didn't like it and it really wasn't cool because only old men smoked pipes. By my Junior Year I was the resident pipe smoker and haven't really looked back. I smoked a pipe in public ina time when it was extremely unfashionable so I know I liked it. Still do. I'm 52 and can't believe I'm not 28, I mean, what the Hell happened?

Never smoked cigarettes or cigars. Tried 'em but didn't like 'em.

Been smoking Cigars for about 22 years and Pipe for the last 15. Smoke 2 Cigars a day and about 5 to 10 bowls a day depending on what I am doing that day.

"Officially" at around age 42, although I did sneak a bowl or two of my late Paps stash as a youngster. For reasons I'm still not totally clear about, I stopped the pipe thing for over 8 years but started back up in earnest a few years ago. Enjoy it more than ever now.

Cigarettes in my late teens. Cigars shortly after. Traded cigs for the pipe in my early 20's. Traded back for about 8 years in my 30's. Picked up the pipe again about a year ago. My time away from it had made me appreciate it more than ever.

I started at 19 and am now 49. But I take frequent breaks from the pipe, which may go from a couple of months to 2 or 3 years in duration.

My story is similar to George Kaplans...

Started cigarettes very late teens. Tried a pipe for a few months in my early 20s. That didn't last long and I smoked cigarettes for about 8 more years. After that I took a few year break from tobacco.

About 3 or 4 years ago I started smoking cigars. Now at age 36 I have started smoking a pipe again. I count this as my first real experience with pipes as I am really enjoying it.

I started smoking cigars at 30. I picked up the pipe when I was 32 when my mother thought after seeing me with cigars that I might enjoy my fathers pipes. I started with the 6 of his (3 Ben Wade freehands, 2 Svenlar by Kabik freehands, and a meerschaum sailer) 4 years countless pipes and tins later due to PAD and TAD I still love my pipes
