Embarcadero is a nice smoke, but I'd also recommend Low Country Waccamaw. It's also made by C&D and strikes me as being, well, close to 100 percent identical to Embarcadero only with the addition of perique, which contributes some fruity notes. Both are sublime smokes -- I prefer Waccamaw by a nose, as I'm a perique junkie, but YMMV.

I need to get off my ass and try some Waccamaw! I've been meaning to for a long, long time! Based on ingredients alone, I would think Wacc would be closer to C&D's Sunday Picnic which has a base of Bright VA where as Embarcadero is mostly Red Virginia...

Still, I'm pretty sure that Waccamaw will be right up my alley

I personally taste a lot more red VA in Waccamaw than bright (the tin says both are included) but that could be due to differences in individual tastes.

Embarcadero is good depending on the puff, and there's something sweet and summery about it that I find agreeable. Having said that, am I the only one that detects a level in the smoke that tastes a bit like cigarette. I find that a bit off putting.

I've never really got anything cigarette-y out of Embarcardero.

I picked up a tin when the Emb. threads started a month or two ago, and haven't been able to stay out of it. I've been gifted a number of samples which have taken the place of most of the usual blends in my rotation ffor the time being, but I CAN'T get away from Embarcadero.

I will probably never try this with any age on it, as I pretty much can't keep my mitts off of it long enough to let it sit!

Many, many, many thanks to Shane and Yak who piqued my interest in this little tin of magic!

Embarcadero reminds me of my cigarette smoking days a bit... I think it's because I only ever smoked Camels. Specifically, Turkish Royals. Supposedly they contain Turkish tobaccos... And ever since I first started trying blends with a significant Turkish/Izmir content, that flavor has reminded me of my old Turkish Royals

But Embarcadero is more like what I wished those cigs tasted like lol

I've been smoking Embarcadero in larger-bowled briars lately, rolled & stuffed as much as a Pease flake will allow, and it burns for ever! Two hours just slipped away the other night... :drunken:

Yeah, the 'Barc has a real slow burn to it. I set aside two hours in even a small pipe.

Back in my cig days (long ago) it was either Lucky Strike nonfilters or Camel nonfilters. Both are mostly Turkish, I think.

That said, no, it doesn't smoke, smell or taste like a cigarette at all, it tastes and smells what I wish cigarettes would have been. I detest anything even faintly like cigarette tobacco.

Keep the 'Barc love comin', I'm glad there's such fans of it. Yak does deserve a hearty "thanks," for it was his descriptions and accuracy with Embarcadero that put me on the fast track to joy with this one. 8)

Wow... that image "Baroque" my heart... made in 1560? Holy moly. What a purdy relic.

I thanked Greg humbly in a message already, I just needed to credit Pastor Yak of the Church of Embarcacero to invite me to a sermon...okay, I'm pushing a little idol worship here... but you get what I mean. ;)

My tongue is a little shy from Rob's "aro challenge" of last night, but the thing is, Embarcadero has so many levels, smoking it even slower than normal brings out the earthy, spicy nature of it even more. It really is an instrument you can rock the hell out of, play it gently, compose and be inspired by.

Reading back, today I'm even more convinced it is farther away from a cigarette-type tobacco than anything. The nose on it is almost honeysuckle.

FVF in an old Bewlay Special billiard (LL stem). Fine combo.

Lot of FVF lately ; mostly because the little that remains of the Embarcadero in the working jar is tag end little pieces (seriously sub-optimum because they're tough (i.e., impossible) to keep off the bottom of the bowl, where they absorb moisture and necessitate the stop-&-go syndrome (i.e., stop to let it dry out and resume 'til it's time to stop again). I kind of wish Embarcadero came sliced like FVF ; then again, maybe that would ruin it (?)

:face:
Totally true. Thought I'd post this here. I'm about at the dregs of my 'Barc can, and those little pieces were causing me some grief... I figured it was just me.

I'm thinking about making a little FVF brillo pad & suspending the Embarcadero ends on top of it.

Might even be interesting at the end of it.

:face:

I was thinking about sprinkling them over longer (more sturdy) strips of Union Square, or maybe Scottish Flake. 'Barc is so unique and subtle in many ways, I'd hate to lose the character. A tobacco blender I am not. :| I sure as hell ain't gonna waste it.

Princess 'Barc would hunt me down. :lol;

Open your next can of 'Barc and sprinkle your bits on top of the next pipe?

A pipers version of chain smoking.

The problem is Embarcadero seems to go to pieces once the can is about 1/8 to the bottom. There's a lot of shake floatin' around. And they do stick to things...the side of the bowl, work their way down between the open spaces... etc. *shrug* I surmise a slightly different cut of tobacco might deter them a little.

It would make anything better...just sprinkle it over some ice cream for dessert and call it a day.

It is the bacon of the tobacco world!

Seriously, I thought the same thing as J Soshae. Since that won't work, I'll wait for the result of Yak's FVF brillo pad.

Someone once suggested Nightcap is the bacon of tobacco.

Embarcadero-flavored food might be odd, but I'd consider adding whatever the flavor uniqueness is to a barbecue sauce or a nice barbecue rub. 8) I still haven't had anything that makes me say, "This tastes just like Embarcadero." Heheh
